Earth 2150 / The Moon Project similar games?

I am wondering if any of you know either of these games mentioned in the title (Earth 2150 / The Moon Project) and if you know games that have a similar game-play?

I am looking for games that have the same type of unit customization like the two. I don't really care about graphics, just the gameplay. So if your game dates back to 1990, please mention it.
