    Weapon Choice Question

    So I was using http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50966
and managed to get my hands on http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49992 last night

    http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sh...Drama+Students

Is my current gear setup , someone said nibelung would be better anyway but I have to replace http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45933 with the hit one you can see in the armory..

It's basically a loss of almost 200 haste going from 955 haste down to 778 , I don't think it's worth it but he suggested it was better and I'm slightly confused about it :P

Now before you ask me to rawr it please understand that I suck at rawr (if that's even possible) and I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks the proc from the val'kyr is worth 180 haste

    Re: Weapon Choice Question

as far as i know the valkyr proc isn't really worth it, so go with the haste.
what i also noticed on ur armory profile is that ur way overhitcapped to be arcane as alliance,
i suppose u have a dreanei & shadow priest or balance druid in ur raids ?
in that case u only need 7% hitrating that would be arround 201, dont remember the exact number so dont shoot me pls.

It's not exactly way over the cap. And he hasn't gemmed or trinketed hit, he's got good gear, that happens to have a bit more hit than he necessarily needs. Sometimes it can't be helped. And then those times (such sin 10 mans) that he probably doesn't always have a spriest or boomkin, he's not actually capped. Unless you have a 100% consistent 3% hit joining you, hovering between 7 and 11 is not really an issue.

Also, you told him not to swap weaons, when doing so would lose him a pile of that hit rating you think is so wasted.

As far as the weapons, Rawr tells me that Nibelung is better. I trust rawr, despite not being entirely certain as to WHY Nibelung is better.

Yeah I swapped it in last night while doing totgc 10 , on the non gimmick fights in there was still about to hold 10k it actually doesn't seem like there's a difference between the 2 staves :P Will have to wait to see what it's like in icc25

    Thanks,

    Re: Weapon Choice Question

I've had the same dilemma come up now. Picked up Nibelung last night (putting me at the bottom of the EPGP priorty list meaning i aint getting any 25 man gear for a long, long time.....) but its meant i've dropped about 150 haste. I've a big selection of off peices (frost needle + baton ; maghari staff ; leggings of frozen death ; T10 gloves) but i think my current selection is the best i can get.

However its dropped my haste down to 700 which means i can only get 2 maybe 3 hasted ABs (with 2T10 bonus). Again, i'm not skilled enough with Rawr to work out if this is a dps loss.... I'm mainly doing 10 mans with a draneii so aim for 10% hit, and in 25s i'm not getting an Spriest, Boomkin, Lock or Unholy DK so missing 2 key buffs (yet still being 2nd-5th on dps.....).

Is it worth dropping nibeling + black magic for around +150 haste, -50SP (ie is the proc worth around 100SP?)

    85 pala (tank1); 85 DK (tank2; 85 priest (unused), 85Drood (heals); 85 lock (dps); 85 warrior (Tank3) 85 hunter ;83 Shammy (Ele/Resto);65 rogue

    Re: Weapon Choice Question

well it was worth the 180 haste or so that I lost I did gain a solid amount of SP from it and the proc can be anywhere between 2-10% of my damage depending on the fight , but I haven't actually noticed a loss in my dps or anything like that ..

well, i know that nibelung works better for some classes than others. as a mage, though, i think it first boils down to the "which should i use, a mainhand/offhand combo or a staff" question. each has it's own upside. generally a main/off hand combo will get you more spell power, but a staff can bring more raw stats like stam/intel/spirt as well as crit/haste/hit.

the downside to nibelung is that it's not giving and crit, haste, or hit. losing those raw stats, even using abracadaver as an example, is taking a big hit. i'm not saying that you can't still have high stats, i just think they'd be a bit higher with a weapon that has the key stats that mages rely on.
