Revenge and tanking - Too strong now?

As much as I love revenge and playing on my little warrior tank, http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...uard&cn=Bairaq - It seems rediculous, especially leveling up in instances.

As someone in my instance groups stated, "Why are the rest of us even here?" and I kind of agree with them. My revenge was putting out 40% of my damage, hitting for 1600 and critting for 3500+. Coupled with cleave, shockwave and thunderclap, I was putting out a solid 1100 dps, which at the level of say, Hellfire Ramparts, is just silly. No one else even got time to hit the mobs.

Not that I've gotten a warrior to 80 yet, but a few guildy tanks swear it's rediculous as well, hitting upwards of 14k on two targets at once. Just seems crazy to me!

It might be crazy, but you should enjoy it while it lasts,
like the op'ness of paladins during the pre patch of wotlk. One paladin taking on 5 other people on his own... It was madness!

Basically what I'm saying is : They will nerf it soon

Well, have to say its nice at least in one way, those leveling instances go slightly faster when your tank is pumping out more damage too...

Yeah, those Divine Eye Lasers, Holy Rocket Boots, and Paladin only + Win Gems had to be removed.

Revenge for tanking isn't not even close to overpowered. First because if you're wearing full tanking gear you won't surpass 6% crit chance, since Revenge don't have any talents that increase its crit chance, and tanks don't get Cruelty now anyway. Raid buffed you can get 10% maybe, but again it isn't overpowered as Hammer of the Righteous.
As for damage it deals around 4k damage in 5 mans (normal hit) and crits 8-9k, but again with low chance.

For arms PvP with Unrelenting assault, revenge damage is ok if they apply the proc per parry/dodge/block rule.

So stop the QQing and keep playing.

I like it on my warrior for AoE situations, single target too, but I don't think this buff was needed at all. Prot warriors were fine as they were, but it's Blizzard policy to fix what's not broken.

How about.. say 4k dps at level 73 as a tank? UA revenge.

When you have 24 other ppl (with half overgearing you) beating on 2 mobs for threat, the usual 13-14k icc10 geared(or 251 avg ilvl) warrior tanks get comes in handy. They may lower the talent by 10% but that would be about it. Warriors were always behind on tank dps anyway(especially with druids as co-tank). The incoming change will even stop PVP qq.

Did you even read what I said? :/

I'm not complaining about it, it just seems too good. A tank should *not* be dealing 65% of a ramparts group's damage as prot. If I tank with my paladin in pve ret gear, I still won't do 65% of the groups' damage. Granted, like you said, there's a 20% crit rate in there too (with levelling gear) but it will level off quick and it's something that's always up whenever you want to use it. (5 second cooldown doesn't even really count, you can be cleaving at the same time as using it and thunderclap/shockwave in between).

Warrior damage was behind, but now it's WAY ahead, even of paladins, whose damage was way too high in the first place.

They are changing it so that you only get 1 charge of revenge per avoided attack, in an aoe situation I guess you should proc enough to keep spamming in an UA build though.

You're just used to having no dps. I'm still getting outdpsed by feral tanks and prot pallys. Blizzard has stated that they are happy with the damage prot warriors are putting out. I'd say its safe to say things are pretty set for a while damage wise.

However, UA and Revenge have been changed (hotfixed and undocumented) so now only allow one Revenge per 5 sec. It was forseeable...there was no way they were gonna let that go through for long.

    I love it, 4k Crits and hits 2 targets @lvl68... overall ~55% grp-dmg in a 5-man dungeon. :>

Show us a screenshot of this on a typical boss fight where it really matters. If it's some situational mass AoE 3 second long fight then don't bother.

Well, that's my thing really. Maybe it's just rediculous as you level as a prot tank?

Ran 3 ramps runs yesterday, 60%, 70%, and 65% of damage total.. and that's constant, being the tank. The other dps would rain of fire, blizzard, spread diseases, but it didn't matter, mobs just fell over before they got anything done with them. But hey, who am I to judge...

As far as I can tell it isn't OP at 80 if you are raid tank or even aoe tank specc'd but if you are aoe tank specc'd AND are wearing DPS gear it's ridiculous. 20-25% damage done from revenge, 20% from cleave and if you healer has half a brain he can keep you up through most heroics except the icecrown ones and maybe the Black Knight in TOC 5 if he is undergeared/incompetent. Stuff dies so fast that even people in ICC 25 gear can't keep up, especially with classes that have ramp up time.

Re: Revenge and tanking - Too strong now?

We like Revenge on UA and we certainly like the new damage Protection can do with Revenge.

If we make any change at all, it would probably be in the duration of the buff. Currently Revenge operates by giving the warrior 5 seconds in which to Revenge. This works fine when Revenge has a 5 sec cooldown, but UA removes that. Having no cooldown on Revenge is also probably fine if Revenge hits softly for Arms warriors, but it doesn't anymore. That allows a warrior who gets Revenge to light up to hit the button three or possibly four times in the window and do massive damage with each one. If we change Revenge to basically be one charge then the warrior can still pop the rogue or pet or whatever that triggers the block, dodge or parry, but they'd only get one hit instead of multiples. Such a change should not affect Protection at all.

So basically, they are giving Revenge one charge per proc. They like the damage were it is.

Took them a long time to even get going on attempting to level Pallys out with everyone else. I am hoping they leave this alone.. AT least until I ding 80 on my warrior :P

Re: Revenge and tanking - Too strong now?

To be honest, levelling out paladins would've been the smarter thing. This just seems.. broken, for lack of a better word.

The number of revenge procs won't really change anything, if you're tanking more than 1 mob at any time revenge is up 100% of the time anyways.

Re: Revenge and tanking - Too strong now?

Paladins are fine, this crying over prot pallys has got to cease. In terms of EH we're pretty much even. It terms of CDs were pretty much even...we just have to trigger all of ours. In terms of single target threat...I'd say we're better. It terms of AE threat...we're a little behind, but the changes to Revenge helped a lot. Our AE threat abilities are pretty darn good...Imp T-Clap is a lot of threat, glyphed cleave is aswome, Revenge is now butta, and anything that swings at us us getting hit for a decent little bit back...all of this threat multiplied by standing in Def Stance.

If your dps is dying by pulling aggro off you...its becuase they are doing more than just splash damage on a target that isn't your main target. Try the macro in the sticky that automatically puts skulls above your main target as you target mobs to get your dps to follow your target. As we all know, you might as well be speaking in a foreign language when you ask for your pug dpsers to use an assist macro.
