ICC 10 hard modes and affliction...

Is this possible? I just stepped into 10 man hard modes for the first time last night and it feels as though I'm lacking in burst damage for certain fights (Marrowgar & Saurfang in particular) and spikes/beasts seemed to be going down too slow. Granted, we only had three ranged instead of our usual four last night which didn't help.

Just wondering if I am going to need to pick up a destro off-spec for certain fights in there?

Decision tree (Go to next Q if answer to current is "yes")

Q: Does your group have replenishment?
    No: Go destruction.

Q: Does your group have sufficient ranged burst for Saurfang H10 beasts?
No: Go destruction and pick up shadowfury.

Q: Does your group have 3+ casters including yourself?
    No: Go destruction.

Q: Does your group feature an elemental shaman?
    No: Go demonology.

Yes to all of the above? Go affliction.

Lol, I figured as much and just wanted to see what others were doing. Thank you ;D

Le sigh though, just as I was about to ditch my unloved demo spec and pick up an affliction PVP spec too...

Our aff lock uses a Doomguard on HM Saurfang in 10man for the stun after the Typhoon, works just fine and is back off CD in time for each blood beasts.

Love the rundown except this one. Demo's burst is equal or greater, what you should be checking is if you have proper slows/stuns, not burst.

Doomguard isn't reliable. It's only good for a single pull and if you're learning the fight that is not consistent enough. The same can be said of using the Felguard stun on one. Yes, it works, but it's not as reliable as Shadowfury.

I personally love the Affliction playstyle above all others but you should be Demo for 10mans if you want your raid to get anywhere. The only exception being your raid needing Replenishment.

The "burst" issues there are in ICC10 can easily be sorted out just by using your brains :d You can do Saurfang with one ranged on heroic if you want to, you just need to use whatever utility your raid has, e.g. distract / taunt / ToT / CoI / Hammer / Kidney / Knockback. There's really no need for you to go Shadowfury in 10mans.

so I take it you've personally done it with 1 ranged in H10ICC?

If the group has a lot of casters it'd be worth going Demo.

In order, Replenishment is the most important thing you as a lock could bring to your group. Then, if you don't have sufficient ranged dps casters, your burst capabilities are required. If you DO have sufficient ranged dps, you can choose demonology for their buffs and personal burst, or you can choose affliction and make the boss die faster.

Replenishment > Killing Adds = Demonic Pact on 3+ casters > Personal DPS.
