Why do tanks think they're so special?

This whole thing with tanks in WOTLK is reminding me of how it was in TBC with Resto Shamans in 25mans. Resto Shaman were NEEDED and I remember most of them being complete douche bags only because they knew they could get away with it because their "role" at the time was needed.

So how many of you fee-charging-emo-egomanic tanks use to play a resto shaman in TBC?

They have a retarded superiority complex these days.
Always thinking they're what matters the most.

I hate arrogant tanks. The fact is:

Tanks need heals, and DPS to finish a dungeon.
DPS needs a tank, and heals to finish a dungeon.
Heals need a tank, and DPS to finish a dungeon.

If this wasn't true, they wouldn't use LFD, they would just go solo the dungeon.

Why do people tend to generalize this ?

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

It's usually a lot harder to find a tank at level 80 than any other role, especially healers. So of course idiots are going to take advantage of that just to feel superior to others.

Being a tank myself(disclaimer; I'm not a douche), I usually run into annoying dps instead. Apparently they seem to think they're special too.... Healers seem to be the best attitude-wise. Maybe because they're afk 50% of the time?

Yea, it's real friendly when the tank leaves the instance because he 'didn't feel like doing this instance"
Or leaves because he thinks hes carrying the group.
Or leaves because we werent keeping up with him.
Or leaves because DPS are pulling aggro off them, but no ones dying.

It's stupid, and that's how I can come to this conclusion.

To be fair my blood dk tank can solo dungeons, healers and dps just make it go faster..................sometimes.

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

Personally, I play a feral druid, main spec kitty and offspec bear. I always queue as tank because I can get a fast group, tanking heroics is easy mode with today's gear levels and swipe/maul macro, and it keep me from burning out on DPSing all the time. Now, I don't see at all how these tanks are so full of themselves that they ask to charge money for runs.

Here is what I have to say to them:
I know what its like to sit in the LFD tool for half an hour as a DPS because sometimes I don't feel like tanking.
Yes, it does seem that as soon as a tank queues a group is formed.
Yes, we do need you as a tank to complete this dungeon.
Yes, you are full of yourself.
No, I will not pay gold to fuel someone's ego because its pathetic that you feel the need to take blatant advantage of people in a game that are going to put the same amount of their skills into a heroic instance as you.

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

It's because the tank has to do everything right in a dungeon or things can all mess up.

If a DPS underperforms, not a big deal, we'll just kill the boss a bit slower.

Healer underperforms and the tank can just slap on a CD for a few seconds and give them a chance to catch up.

If a Tank underperforms and loses all the adds the healer's probab;y dead and so will the DPS be.

That's the thing that DPS don't realise when they ninja pull, they're just putting themselves at risk instead of letting the tank doing the job they signe dup to do.

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

If the tank is skilled idc if he is arrogant in a heroic dungeon.

However most tanks out there don't have a clue as to what they're doing and STILL act like douchebags. That really grinds my gears!

I am not saying that this is not happening, but I saw DSP and even heals act stupid. That's the point.
But anyway. It's human nature. Give a man a weapon, and he feels stronger than the rest of humanity. Of course there are few responsible.
The same would be with dps, if there would be just few and their value would go up.

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

Tanks used to be the default leader of the group before the dungeon finder came out, in the past when damage wasn't so spikey...the tank was the only role that couldn't get my by winging it.

They had to know the mechanics of every encoutner to properly deal with it.

Today the healers almost have to do the same thing in order to predict big incoming raid/tank damage to get by.

Dps can still usually wing it.

Those tanks who you call arrogant are usually the ones who make a request because they know or have experience with some part of the upcoming fight and they expect you to recognize that they usually know what is going happen. Usually if you don't comply, it just makes everyone's job harder,

and done, there will always be a group of people that through their poor attitude ruin the respective opinion on the group as a whole. its not the class/role that has the problem, its the individual people playing them.

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

to be honest tanks are pretty much the least forgiving member of the team as someone above said.

A dps or healer may slack but slacking is nothing compared to losing a member completely.

However, does this give them the right to be arrogant? Of course not. But blame the player, not the role. I've seen enough arrogant healers and dps as tanks; just as decent ones.

Re: Why do tanks think they're so special?

There is no I in Team /thread. Only no no is pulling instead of the tank. Only thing is without a tank or healer you're not going to get far if they leave. They use this as leverage to be a dick at times. It's not like they're not replaceable, it'll just take time for their spot to be filled.

What this guy said. I hate when people try to trash talk me on any of my tanks, especially bad dps in leveling greens.

Currently playing a 80 warrior. Back in TBC I played resto shammy since Karazhan until Sunwell. Yep, I'm pretty ego.
