Plaguebringer Stained Pants vs Gunship Captains Mittens

I've been doing a little digging to find out which would the better option to use an offpiece, with alot of high end mages now shifting towards Fire and my guild is at at level where I'm starting to gear accordingly- there has been mixed reception on which pieces to use overall, optimising a BiS for Fire has proven a little tricky when trying to avoid using hit gems to get that cap- with ruby sanctum around the corner and the potential pieces - thought i'd get your opinions on what would be the ideal choice.

Neither, crit is superior to haste so use tier. Although if they're going cheap you can get either till you get your last 277 token.

agreed, for a fire spec you don't want haste as a prio stat, crit and spell power which are on the tier pieces.

I personnaly fix myself around 800 haste ( with dfo 277 ), and then go for all the crit possible, if you can't do otherwise go gunship mittains 277 but tier 10 gloves are better

Well, 5/5 t10 is best in slot, but yeah the difference is small.

cheers guys, yeah the only reason i'm not considering the full set is it's a bit "greedy" at this point in time so was considering an alternative, i've had a check and the dps difference between them both are very small - with the tier pants and gunship gloves leading by 17dps over the other combo.

with that small a difference, i'll just grab whatever comes first and get the final tier piece once a vast majority of other players in the guild have obtained 3-4 pieces.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with gemming to the hit cap.

People are told hit gems are bad, so they are afraid of them.

Anyway, the pants are your better option. I'll probaby grab them after all of the locks/spriests get theirs just because getting 5 tier tokens isn't going to happen fast (we use loot council and tier tokens are given out pretty evenly based upon how many you have).

In my opinion you should not go 5/5 t10..

Im using Gunship gloves and tier legs, simply because the legs gives more crit than the gloves do.
Even if haste is not main stat, its still important, say differently and your stupid.

I have seen alot of mages going Gunship gloves / tier legs and mages going plaguebringer pants / tier gloves, also seen mages use 5/5 tier, but not going haste on gloves or legs and you will automaticly loose ~100 haste which, imo, is stupid since crit is so easy to get anyway.

I currently have 3.1k sp 33,85% haste 43,65% crit ub (around 61% in 25m)

If you just gather full 277 gear fast regardless if it's bis, you are going to be pretty close to a mage in BiS gear which is why I wouldn't worry about it too much.

It's not that I believe gemming hit is bad, it's more I'd rather not gem them if it can be absolutely avoided.

Yea i've seen various mages with those varying combo's too, although less with a full set of tier pieces- the more common set that I've seen is Gunship Gloves and Tier Pants, the pants yeld more crit so I guess this is among the reasoning for it.

Rawr gives the same assessment too, saying that gloves and tier legs is (only) slightly ahead of using pants and tier gloves.
I guess what each individual chooses really depends on what they've picked up previously as alot of mages were Arcane who are transitioning into Fire.


I guess you can't really go wrong with which you choose, the plan is at the moment I'll take whatever comes first with the intention of picking up a full tier set once everyone in our raid team has their 4pc.

i'll try to explain this as plainly as possible: while both haste and crit are important for fire, ONLY crit can be translated into both stats.

by that i mean, the more crit you have, the higher the uptime of the t10 2 piece proc is, which is a higher up time on a passive 12% haste buff.

...if that makes sense.

oh, and crit is better after you can constantly get 2 casts of fireball off after your 2p t10 hasted HS proc. at that point, stacking crit gives you a greater chance for your optimal rotation: lb,fb,fb,pyro,fb,fb,pyro..... refreshing lb then pyro and overriding your haste proc is more beneficial then waiting it out.

Most Mages actually use Gunship Gloves or Plaguebringer Pants till they get their 5th Token.

Nobody wanted Gunship Gloves so i took them because they are better as the 264 T10 Token (150 dps Upgrade), as soon as i get a 5thToken i will go for 5/5.

In BIS Gear both 277 T10 Tokens are about 35 dps better as Gunship Mittens and Plaguebringer Pants.

So if you ca get one of those 2 Items ilvl 277 cheap take it and exchange it if you have access to the 5th Token.
