    Is the required defense for crit immunity in ICC above 540?

    I've got 545 defense on my prot paladin, but during Gunship trash a critical melee hit just popped up in my combat log.

    Is the crit immunity cap above 540 in ICC?

    first of all, it's not a crit-cap, per-se. It's just the common plateu of which, that most mobs of +3levels/bosses stop critting.
    There are exceptions, of course;

    * Debuffs lowering defense
    * Buffs on mobs increasing chance to crit
    * Accidently sitting down
    * Inherent increase in critical strike-chance (I can only name a select few, and I haven't raided ICC, so unsure there)

    I'd say; Don't worry about it, you're the cap is the same as always.

    And yes, I unnecessarily overcomplicate things.

    I haven't been an active raider for some time now, but I'd say there's a good chance that the trash has an ability that skews the attack tables so that you're not crit immune against them at that moment. Again, I have literally no experience with ICC trash, just an educated guess.

    there are rogue like mobs in that trash, that have a higher crit chance than normally.

    "Accidently" sitting down is a good way to get mana, as pala tank, in heroics :P

    On heroic deathwhisper 25 we had repeated situations where a mind controlled elemental shaman put down a totem of wrath (increasing critical strike chance against our raiders by 3%).

    this has been tested down to the very marrow, and has been proven to be wrong. if you have been crit while above the defense minimum, you either had a debuff on you, or a rogue-type mob fighting you.

I'm not sure if this has been fixed or changed since i last read up on this "fault".
    this is correct. if you have 688 defense rating, the ingame counter will show 540 defense skill. but 688 defense rating only is 139.83 defense skill in reality. however, they use the skill, not the rating. since WoW can't show fractions for expertise, weapon damage and defense skill, they show a rounded value, but one that is actually too high.

    the safest thing is either 689 defense rating (since you need 140 skill, which is 688.8 rating), or 541 defense.
