We've had 2 expansions totally smushed with flying mounts i think its time for alot of new ground mounts, the high end pvp mounts being ground in cata is a nice change hence you acctually get to use what you've earned while playing pvp.

Well, the problem is that ground mounts are pretty obsolete, unless you're doing BGs/running around in TBC starting zones. If anything, there should be more flying mounts than in the other expansions.

Oh yeah, we had Ulduar. No wait, you used vechiles in that part, then you cant ride the mounts so theres no point... Oh yeah, that part in ICC! No wait, that was just some trash mobs and then you're off to the loot ship.

I mean honestly, if anything CoT Hyjal would probably be the closest thing to having ground mounts actually viable.

On a more serious note, there'll obviously be desert mounts (camel), elemental mounts (drakes) and underwater stuff (sea horses).
- It'd probably be cool if we'd get Chimaera's as desert flying mounts next to the camel ground mount.
- Elemental mounts will probably be the drakes, just flying stuff. Can't really think of any cool elemental ground mount, but that may be because it's almost 5.45pm and I'm tired of working.
- Engineers will probably be able to make a gnomish submarine (Warcraft 2, anyone?), and rays are quite probable as underwater mounts since they already have similar mounts as flying mounts (plus that it'd be cool).

They do? yaay. But then the argument for ground mounts as rated bg reward is obsolete :P anyway, hope that change stays.

For some reason when I read the news post with the new elemental models I thought it said new mount models. Was thinking it was weird, but awesome.
The fire one looks a bit like diablo, so I was all ready to farm for that one.

From doing a bit of research, I've compiled a list of all of the models that will possibly become mounts:
Camel: These beasts are going to appear in Uldum. As mobs, they may appear alone as neutral beasts, or as mounts for other hostile mobs. As mounts, they will appear in a vairety of colors (Grey, Purple, Brown, and White). I would guess that they would be vendored mounts from the Tol'vir, either through faction rewards or simply gold.

Deepholme Drake: These dragons will be found in Deepholme, as well as it's dungeons. As mounts, they will appear in a variety of colors (Red, Blue, Green, and Orange if I remember correctly. There might be a Purple one.) They may be available through faction rewards from Therazane if she is neutral-friendly. They may also appear as boss drops.

Dark Pheonix: This model already has a mount skin, so I can safely say that it will be a mount in the future. How we receive, however, is a different question entirely. Unless Kael'thas decides to resurrect himself yet again, the only place I can see this mount appearing is from a Blackwing Raid.

Faceless Mount: Even thought the word "Mount" is in the name of this model, I heavily debated whether I should have put it in the "speculative" list or this one. Either way, I can see this becoming a mount very easily. Rather than sitting on it like a regular mount, I guess we would be able to "surf" on it like we co with the tailoring mounts.

Sea Horse: The Sea Horse will appear in appear in Vash'jir as a new beast. As a mount, it will probably appear in a variety of colors (Blue, Purple, Yellow, and Green). I"m not too sure if we are only allowed to use specific mounts in that zone, but I would assume that we will see more underwater mounts.

Skeletal Raptor: As an Archaeology reward, the Skeletal Raptor is already confirmed to become a mount. We will probably see it as hostile mob as well, since Blizzard loves to get their worth out of models by reusing them.

Speculated Mounts As well as compiling a list of possible mounts, I've also compiled a list of speculative mounts.
Deepsea Turtle: A good example of another possible underwater mount. Since already have tortoise-styled mounts above the water, I don't see why it would be that hard to convert the model for the Deepsea Turtle into an underwater mount.

Ettin: A more silly speculation than serious one. Although, it would be quite funny seeing a whole raid riding around on Ettins.

Giant Remora: Another possible underwater mount. I don't know how giant these "Giant" Remoras are, but I could see it happening.

Lave/Ring/etc. Worm:This is a mount that I've wanted since The Burning Crusade expansion, when they introduced the worm model. When we never got one of Outlands worms, I was positive that we'd get one from Northrend. When that didn't happen, I sort of gave up hope. But, I still think it would be awesome if we converted at least model of worm into a mount. The Ring Worm already comes in a variety of colors (Blue, Red, and Yellow), so converting it into a faction reward for Therezane's group wouldn't be too hard to do. The lava worm, on the other hand, might need a new model altogether.

Skywall Drake: Players have speculated whether these drakes will become mounts, but at this time it is uncertain. Since there is only one known skin for it, I would assume that if it were to become a mount, it would be a boss dropped one from the Skywall raid.

Stingray: Despite the fact that the model has three different color variations (Red, Green, and Blue), the texture of the Stingray makes it seem like more of a critter than a mob large enough to become a mount. If they were to become mounts, the model's texture would most likely receive a makeover.

Shark: An obvious choice for a speculative underwater mount. Everyone would try to get a shark to parade in while trying to avoid the uber Whale Shark. For what type of sharks that would be available, there is the normal Shark, the Thresher Shark, and the Whale Shark. The first two would be possible choices, but the last, the Whale Shark, would be a bit tricky. Maybe converting it to this expansion's passenger/vendor mount would work out.. except, it would only be used underwater. I would personally lover the Thresher Shark as a mount; hell, it has A VARIETY OF COLORS! (Black, Green, Blue, Purple)
