to correct you ending statement darthmuffin the horde side of wc2 is non-canon.
maybe a mission bit here and there but that is about it.
most characters are made first in the game or at least first seen in game.
rhonin and a couple others are the exclusions.
well at least the big impact ones, haven't seen hide nor hair of varian's 3v3 team members after wrathgate.

I don't mind 'backstories' been told in other mediums of characters already introduced via the game BUT not characters born from comics then planted in the game for players to think "Who the heck is he/she?" and left bewildered
