No way they announce release at BlizzCon

Can you imagine the chorus of boos when poor Chris Metzen has to announce a Jan 2011 release? It would just be a bad start to BlizzCon. The only possible acceptable release date is "it's available now!" and we all know that isn't going to happen.

Edit: Jan 2011 - Sorry, still have 2010 in the brain, lol

I'd be quite enthusiastic about Cata being released January 2010, even though it means I missed it being available for the past 9 months.

I don't understand why you think people will boo at good news?
Any release date is good news. If no release date is announced at Blizzcon THAT would be bad news. That would mean there is still a lot to be done.

why do you think they would announce a release date right at the start? maybe it's the last thing on the last day of blizzcon.

If people boo at him announcing Jan 2011 as the release date it's because of two reasons; they're fed up with 3.3.x and want Cata NAO! or at least ASAP, which is fair enough but unless you say "within a month guys!" they'll never be happy :-p

The other reason is that those people have taken Boub's predictions as a cold hard fact, which is their own damn fault for not understanding the words "this isn't official". As long as it's out within the next several months I'll be happy, ideally before February :-p

Personally, I'm looking forward to them announcing a Diablo III release date at Blizzcon.

Actually assuming anything is poor logic seeing as how there is yet to be any official announcement of the intended release date.

They will have to announce something at Blizzcon. Personally I think the MAJOR announcement will be the new mmo they have been working on. Its about time they announce some details of this, and a couple of vids etc. Dibalo and Cataclysm release dates would be nice, and I think they really will have to announce a release date for cataclysm tbh, but its not a MAJOR item - its not going to have a lot of fanfare, people have already seen cataclysm. Many people have played it, others have heard a lot about it - its not going to be workshops on all the things that are part of it - something else needs to take centre spot or blizzcon is going to be a bit empty imo. As for release date.... I suspect December, would love it to be earlier, but wont be amazed if its Jan either.

Many people who play wow, and will attend blizzcon, may not actually read MMO. For these people, they are still in total darkness - no release date has been given, full stop. Thus ANY release date will surely be an improvement - yes, whilst everyone may be hoping that it will be ready as soon as possible, not everyone is going to boo because they are disappointed at a postponement - because it's NOT postponement because there was never an official date given. Only those who read MMO and felt confident that the 2nd Nov release date will feel disappointed at it being pushed back and quite frankly they should have taken an unofficial leak with a pinch of salt.

Everyone should have hopes for a release date at a specific time sure, but to expect it to be a specific date before it's been released is setting yourself up for disappointment which is what's happened to so many people who took MMOs november date as a guarantee and are now feeling very frustrated by the thought of waiting till Dec.

So I think they will announce it, and I don't think they will be booed. They never gave a release date, and thus are not going back on anything or taking anything away from anyone. The type of people who go to blizzcon will hopefully be the type of people who appreciate the massive amount of work that's going into Cataclysm and understand that pushing a buggy product onto the shelves will benefit no one long term and it's better to do it right.

I think they will announce something to do with the Next Gen MMO, as well as the final D3 class. And that's it.

We've got our big, primary announcement (Next gen mmo) and our big, but smaller, secondary announcement (final d3 class).

This year's Blizzcon is not going to be WoW-centric I think.

It's Blzzcon, not Catacon or Diablocon. Plus it's, what, 3 days? I think there's a good chance they will release some info about the new MMO.

On the other side of the coin, no news about Blizz securing the rights to any new web sites or potential game titles, which is usually done before any info is released so they don't have to pay exorbitant fees to some URL camper who jumps on the new-blizz-title.com address.

We'll find out soon enough. Between Twitter, facebook, and good ole MMO Champion, you won't have to be at Blizzcon to know what's going on as soon as it happens.

they will have playable cata and Starcraft 2:HotS previews. Combine that with likely announcements for D3 and the unknown MMO this is gonna be a big blizzcon.

I think they will announce the end of season 8 on Oct 5th and deploy 4.0 on Oct 19th the week of blizzcon. This will dull any hate over a Jan release but it will be like boub said imo(Dec 7-14). This is based off of not information whatsoever but Blizz would really like to release the game pre-Christmas

Everyone says "OMG guys why take Boubs word for it?!?" Lets face it: Boub obviously is either leaked information either directly by Blizzard or someone high up in the company that is privvy to all the sensitive information. Lets not forget all the haters when he announced Cataclysm. If Boub says it, its true in my books. He has been wrong once (I think recently for a patch release date) and that is pretty much it.

Honestly, any release date is good.

We have no statement thus far, so as far as we know we might have to wait for june 2011.

Just saying that at least a launch date gives us something to look forward to.

Metzen will pull copies of Cata out of his pants and throw them into the crowd while Queen music plays and the tauren chieftains play their new song "Rockaclysm" and pure joy will flood the entire room
