Any old timer Deathknights still around?

Well generally as the title says, any of us old veteran deathknights that have kept strong and played a deathknight through every nerf?

How will you adapt to the rune changes and some of our beloved talents being moved around.

What was your favourite part of the expansion while playing a deathknight?

I'm just missing the pure shadow damage scourge strike, and the way we could ressurect as a ghoul and the plaguestrike removing hots.

And like having more hp than any other tank which actually made us a viable tank in some of the content.

I have been playing a death knight since the first day erm scratch that week of wrath. I am not exactly sure how all the changes are gonna work out yet. I have actually been blood tanking for some time but kept a frost tank spec as well for 5 man's ect because I am lazy and it was easy threat. I have to admit one of my favorite points a s a deathknight was the "surprise" factor of coming back as a ghoul for 45 sec after death, well that and the 100k plus howling blasts that I was putting out in ICC. I will miss my frost tanking spec as for a group of mobs there was nothing better, I am intrigued to say the least with the changes made, some of them are quite humorous (bone shield as a tank.....that will last 5 sec or so)and some of them very much needed, trying not to judge till release since I am in fact not in beta and have not downloaded the ptr.

I will never complain about not being gcd locked, I don't find it fun because it means that any time you have to spend a global on something other than damage you are losing dps. The talent changes are mostly insignificant, it's the rune changes and runic empowerment/corruption that will really change how the class is played. We have been riding a balance rollercoaster all expansion, we should be used to big changes by now anyway.

Scourge strike not being physical damage was the biggest scaling problem that unholy has ever had, good riddance. The other stuff was just flavour, which we are getting a lot more of in cataclysm anyway.

We haven't ever had more health than any other tank but apart from during t9 and early t10 dk tanks have been quite a bit too good.

ive been playing dk aswell since day 1 they came out!
the heart strike nerf, scourge strike ups and downs, i must admit, the scourge strike shadow damage buff, was crazy it critted for 20 k + lol

iam actualy excited about playing my dk in cataclysm, the rune changes will make our strike hit alot harder and there is more burst!
dark simalcrum (or how ever u write it) looks, and sounds realy cool!

    iam sticking with my dk<3

The most memerable moment was when i was playing my death knight at the start of the expansion when the smart ass level 70s thought ganking some fresh death knights who did ont know how to play their class in Hellfire Peninsula and raping their faces with the overpowered "Hero" class. Still gives me laughter remembering it, after a little beating i would run Outland dungeons with 5 death knights when we could heal ourselves by spamming deathstrike.

That and when i tried out unholy and would transform into a ghoul if you ever lost all of your health and killing people while in your ghoul form and corpse exploding to wreak havoc when almost dead in your zombie form.

    This.

But yeah, I've played my dk since release but probably won't come Cataclysm. The rune changes are to blame for that, mainly runic empowerment which I feel is kind of a dumb mechanic. I might make one after I've leveled my other alts but I haven't decided yet.

What I miss....I miss being able to pop all my cooldowns while tanking and take almost no damage as frost.

Hey, how many people here made a death knight as soon as they finished installing the game? Like the first thing you did upon logging in?

Just curious to see who else got to endure that torture :3

I have been here since first day possible and would have if I made it into any beta. I'll adapt easily the the changes because at 80 there isn't any change due to large amounts of haste and at 85 and while leveling the globals will be just a little slower.

I do miss plagestrike removing hots, the ghoul rez was OP as hell, and the shadow damage scourge strike was OP.

What I do miss was 2h frost. My spec order goes around the lines of Blood while leveling and blood untill about halfway through naxx gearing when I went 2h frost. I sayed frost untill early ulduar when I went back to blood. I was blood untill 4/5 t9 ( the best set bonus ever and i miss that too) when I went unholy and aoe'd the fuck out of TOC. Have been unholy since then. I also have flipped specs constantly in ICC just for fun.

Been playing a DK since Wrath came out. he's been my main ever since my hunter reached 55 (I started playing about 2 months before wrath). I have stuck with him through thick and thin, through all the nerfs (3.1 *cough*!)

    EDIT:
The changes annoy me. They want us to have "free" GCD's but.. I DONT WANT ANY FREE GCDS! I like how interactive it is to play a DK, having to constantly use abilities.

LOL the title of this thread and content is so misleading (old time deathknights). DKs are a new class and havnet been out long enough for anyone to be considered and "old timer".

The idea of free GCD's is just another word for do nothing that displeases Necroticfury

I've been playing DK since the first day of LK. I still find it more fun than my alts. I missed 2h frost, but I'm getting that back, so don't really care anymore

I've been playing/tanking as a DK since Naxx times. I miss the resurrect as a ghoul thing most thou it was useless Mighty armor & hp nerf at Ulduar times hurted me most and i hope i wont get nerfed that much again

I didnt try new rune changes but I can say its a very bad bad thing for us. Fewer runes will be limiting our moves I suppose. I'll miss chain "chains of ice"ing flag carriers etc. But I like the dedicated blood tanking tree with nice a lot cooldowns.

I did, but sadly I was one day late due to my game didnt arrive by mail so I cancelled the order and went to the shop to get it my self the next day.

Die hard 2 hand frost DPS DK here from day 1. Yes I have had to go DW and have hated it so I am looking forward to getting my 2 hand frost back. I would have to say the saddest and most significant change for me is when they changed frost strike and removed the no dodge/parry/block component from it. I wish they would somehow bring that back as it gave Frost Strike and the frost tree some unique flavor that I think has been lost.

That wont stop me from being DPS 2 hand frost come cata though...and of course I will be frost in PvP as well. As far as PvP is concerned I am a bit worried about survivability since I wont be able to get imp rune tap and Death strike will be harder to come by since runes will be less available. Unholy with all its tricks and utility and blood with all its damage mitigation and self healing seem better for PvP at this point, I just hope frost can be competitive in PvP as well.

    Time will tell.

    Yes

I played a Shadow Knight in EQ1 a long time ago. When I heard about the DK class I knew it will be my main for as long as I will play wow.

I feel the same way. My DK has been my main since the second day of Wrath and have always loved the way it's played. The synchronicity between disease length and rune cooldown was perfect the way it was.
I stuck through the roller coaster of Wrath nerfs but the one that hurt the most was when they took away our ghouls voice.
