    Would you buy gold if...

You knew where it came from? what im asking is that, as ive seen from a number of threads, people would be willing to buy gold if they knew it came from a farmer, not a hacker / scammer? I personally do not buy gold due to my lack of payment method and my concern for who get's what i would pay them. I know its against ToS but honestly, that is rarely followed from my experience, and i believe that gold selling will always occur. BUT my question is would you buy gold if you knew its source?

no, ruins the games economy, which is tied to pretty much all aspects of the game.

most people do now anyway..sure they will say they don't..but this is the internet...think that explains enough

the reason some people buy gold is because they look at it this way, which is the same way i look at it, i can go to work and make 24$ an hour or i can farm gold on wow and make who knows how much an hour. In the end the me working i make more if i just buy it then spend time to farm it.

    Thats my 2 cents

Not anymore but back when it was hard to obtain such as it was in Vanilla/TBC I did quite often simply because I was unable to dedicate the time to farm gold and I wanted to continue raiding

Also what the dude above said however I remember paying $70 for 1k gold to obtain my first Epic mount though my income was 3x larger during the period of time and I was still a teenager who had no real bills.

Farmers run with a bot and mess up the economy by artificially acquiring a large amount of goods to sell. While it's not quite so impacting as hacking+sharding it IS still gonna mess with things a lot. So no.
If blizz ever offered the service in game it would be worth considering I guess as that does nothing but screw the availability of cash in the economy but at least its 100% clean. Anything else I wouldn't touch with anyones.

just wondering but how is farmed gold bad for the economy? it adds gold to the economy allowing more people to buy the gold sinks / epic items, and it adds a mean for non-AH'ing players to obtain expensive items. I see where inflation becomes a problem, but more gold sinks would be purchased along with the introduced Gold

Personally no, I find it easy enough to make it myself but I do know people who just like to log on and smash face no farm etc.

    Sure, why the hell not.

Never. And I'd quit playing if Blizz ever made gold buyable. It's not about the source, it's about the effect on the game.

You can make plenty of gold in no time, almost no effort, never ever would I even consider buying gold.

This is why i posted this, i know alot of people do buy gold, and i just wanted to get a feel for people's opinions upon if where the gold comes from matters.

I'd buy it if it was free. Though I guess that says I'd take some gold.

It introduces gold which "has to be bought". Thus, the prices for everything go up, and anyone who can't afford to buy the gold, now can't afford to bid on the items either. That's how it ruins the economy. This is pretty much economics 101.

Adds a mean for non-AHing players to obtain expensive items? Buying gold outside the scope of the game? It's not part of the game, so this is ridiculous. All it does it make it impossible (or very difficult) for people actually playing properly to be able to afford those items.

You're describing a system which only works if everyone does it. Kind of like communism. Also, if everyone bought gold, the prices would only go up even higher, making it no easier for people buying gold to buy those items either. The economy relies on the fact that at least some of us are honest.

No, most people don't. People should really learn when to use superlatives.

yes but i have 2 points to that, 1) people already buy gold and mess up the economy by buying gold from hackers / scammers, and farmed gold atleast required some level of time and effort to acquire. 2) people who have 3 toons at gold cap have the same (and id argue more of) an effect on the economy than those who buy gold (just as could be seen from the failure of trickle down economics with the Bush tax cuts, sup w/ Ec 101?)

Gold is the center of the game, Like in real life- almost anything can be gotten with gold. Buying, selling, and trading gold for Real life values depreciates the value in game. If someone is hording gold, that gold is pretty much taken out of circulation, and thus the value of the coin goes up. When that gold is sold, it is almost immediately used, thus causing a depreciation of the value of the gold.

In short; Selling gold hurts the entire game.
