Why I don't think 4.0.1 is coming out this Tuesday

It isn't coming out on October 12, 2010.

A couple of signs against it coming out are:

    1) PTR is still up, AFAIK
    2) I haven't seen any indication that the arena season is ending this week. Blizzard only said that the season could end as early as October 12th, but they usually give a firm one week warning.
    3) There are still far too many bugs on PTR for the patch to be ready for release.
    4) There is no good reason to release the patch this week.
    5) The patch would be best released after Blizzcon so the Blizzard staff can focus their efforts on the convention, and not be worried about all of the possible things that could go wrong with the patch mere days before BlizzCon.

It's not going to happy, folks. It just isn't.

Most of your points are sound. But I'm still going to keep telling myself it'll happen this week, because I want it to.

Hope you are wrong but you make some good points.

There is also that blue post about extended maintenance that makes me think you're wrong as well...

I honestly don't mind if the patch is delayed or not but this belongs in the Cataclysm forum.

When I want to log out, where's the save button? I can't find it anywhere, been logged in for three years now.

[QUOTE=betawarz;9067504]It isn't coming out on October 12, 2010. - You don't know for sure, at all.

    1) PTR is still up, AFAIK

There have been times where the PTR existed AFTER the patch was applied.

    2) I haven't seen any indication that the arena season is ending this week. Blizzard only said that the season could end as early as October 12th, but they usually give a firm one week warning.

That point is moot, seeing as the arena season has no need to be linked with a patch.

    3) There are still far too many bugs on PTR for the patch to be ready for release.

Blizzard already knows them and will fix them. That's why we can't report bugs anymore.

    4) There is no good reason to release the patch this week.

There are plenty of good reasons, one of them being that current content is stale as a brick.

    5) The patch would be best released after Blizzcon so the Blizzard staff can focus their efforts on the convention, and not be worried about all of the possible things that could go wrong with the patch mere days before BlizzCon.

How so? The people who manage the servers, patches, and other such things aren't likely to be at Blizzcon. There were people hired for this kind of maintenance.

It's not going to happy, folks. It just isn't. - Again, you don't know, at all. It's also spelled "happen".[QUOTE]

    1. PTR is almost always up when a patch is released. In some cases the PTR has been up for nearly a week after the patch has gone live.

    2. You won't see any indication until it actually ends. Blizzard gives 2 weeks prior warning and nothing more.

    3. I agree, but I also stated this two years ago and was proven dead wrong with 3.0.2's release date.

    4. There is no good reason to release the patch any week.

    5. Delaying the patch that significantly would push it into Early November, causing it to really conflict with other patch schedules. Blizzcon isn't for over a week.

Also, it probably is happening: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...89088752&sid=1

(Yes, I know that blue post was 30 minutes after you, so it isn't your fault)

Well the fact that blizz just announced extended maintenance for the 12th pretty much confirms it. They most likely wont bring the PTR down when 4.0.1 goes live they will just push 4.0.3 out for testing.

  11. #11
I'm hoping for it, so here is why it will be!

    1) There are quite a few changes and giving more people time to get familiar will help the player base adjust.
    2) They did say that they would be willing to put a dmg nerf on arena and they didn't think 1 week would make a difference
    3) PTR is not the latest, Bliz's internal builds are what count.
    4) Blizzcon is next week and will most likely have many employees away to that, so get it in now so if shit hits the fan there are people to fix it.

Also blue just announced extended maintenance this Tuesday!

Patch 4.0.3 is already being tested on the Beta. It is HIGHLY unlikely there will be a 4.0.3 on the PTR.

    1) from what i hear...3.3 was up on the PTR even after it went live (cant confirm this)
    2) while this is true, GC has already said that they would release it even if the season was still going since they really dont care about a week or 2 of the season having the changes
    3) just because what we are able to test has bugs doesnt mean that blizzards internal builds havent fixed them
    4) imo yes there is because if they release it any later its going to end up conflicting with blizzcon which is 2 weeks away
    5) i dont agree with that...if that were the case they might as well just release 4.0.1 and 4.0.3 at the same time...if 4.0.3 is supposed to come out a couple weeks before cataclysm (december 7) 4.0.1 needs to be very soon since it would break the servers to push 2 large patches that close

but we will see...im pretty much 99% certain it will come out but like i said who knows

    12 hour maintenance.
You can tell WoW changed the MMO for good when players started complaining about the amount of time they sink, into a time sink.

you do know that the staff that works on the servers and dealing with this patch, have absolutely NOTHING to do with blizzcon right?

    Is Patch 4.0.1 this week?
Yes, most likely. I'm still trying to get a confirmation on that but really, It's not like it's going to happen on october 19th a few days before Blizzcon. The super mega awesome info compilation for the patch should be available soon, except if I hear that the patch has been delayed.

Update - Oh! Look! An extended maintenance!

    Thank you for your patience.

after that blue post from the front page, I think it is.
