Need help! Haven't played in awhile!

Alright, I haven't played in awhile and I want to play my shaman in cata. I healed pre-4.0 but now I really want to start dpsing. Because I healed pre-4.0 and haven't played in months my gear is aimed towards healing and isn't really the best.(the shaman was an alt when I had it) So, I want to go elemental and I'm not sure what I should do. Is the best way to go about this to just spam heroics as a healer and just collect dps gear?

yes, just spam heroics as a healer and use your JP to buy ele pieces

in terms of healing rotation, no clue, i don't play a shammy

just spec elemental with your resto gear, reforge stats to get hit capped - done.

reforge spirit into mastery, and check out the elemental sticky thread in these forums, heaps of info about elementals

You can. Spirit is a secondary stat, you can do with it what you can do with any other secondary stat.

i think it did at some point, but since they wanted elem and resto to share gear, spirit would of been a wasted stat

Problem is resto don't really want mastery at this moment - where as elemental love mastery... to some degree (balance haste and mastery)

...but as others said - go read up on the FAQs - they are there for that exact reason

Really should read the talents / patch notes...

Elemental preciscion converts spirit into hit rating at a 1 to 1 ratio.

Anyway, you're healing gear will do till you've got some real elemental gear, tier or whatnot. But you wanna do is this:

Meta - 21 crit rating/ increased crit damage (chaotic skyflare i think)
All red sockets - 20 int
All yellow sockets - 10 int/10 haste
All Blue sockets 10 int / 10 hit (If you can make it work with hit rating and the socket bonus is decent)

Reforge extra spirit into mastery too land you on 17 % extra hit chance ( thats 446 hit rating /spirit if i remember it right)
It's worth reforging crit into mastery aswell, remember trinkets can be reforged.
Totem's can be reforged and gemmed.

And the FAQ shows what glyphs are usefull

I followed your guys advice and basically when I specced ele, I had a 29% hit chance from all the spirit conversion. I reforged all my spirit into mastery and i am still 4% above hit cap. One thing though, is there any good mods or can Power aura's classic track how many stacks of Lightning shield you are at or to show up when your at 9 stacks so you know when to cast earth shock?
