Try speccing into shatter, that might help. I do BGs with 1100 resil as ret and on many occasions, I've been crit for 11k ice lances. That's with 32% damage reduction. Clearly outplayed by mages who DF and ice lance.

What are you even responding to? Shatter increases crit, as it always has and frostbolt's damage on frozen targets.
