It boggles my mind when I see someone list TTLG as one of their favorite shows and proceed to criticize a show like One Piece. That and constantly hearing it talked about over and over gets irritating. I found the show to be mediocre at best and seeing nearly everyone and their mother repeatedly praise the show as the best thing since sliced bread gets old.
    .
I think most of it has to do with the length of the big three. I wouldn't like TTGL either if it was endless; I would not be able to take that much 'my drill is the drill that will piece the heavens', it would get dull. TTGL takes that hot blooded attitude that you see in most shounen and ramps it up times a thousand, but it has a definite ending with a point to make.

It sounds like most of your hate towards the show is stemming from the fact that it is praised over things you prefer. Which now that I think about it, my hate for KLK is identical. Honestly I don't really hate KLK as much as I hate the fan base.

I can say the same for so many fanboy bases. Some anime communities have a collective boner for a very specific choice of shows and it's just unbearable.

"WHAT?! YOU DID NOT LIKE 14refwert2qfd? FUCK YOU AND YOUR DOG AND YOUR MOTHER AND YOUR HOUSE I HOPE YOU DIE IN A FIRE!"

I just can't bear with it. This thread is likely the only place I can discuss anime without some rabid fanboi biting my head off for praising a show that came out after 2000. -.- I mean, sure, I disagree on plenty points (SAO anyone? :D), but we manage to agree to disagree and carry on.

Yeah, as much as I like One Piece it's waaay too long.

Had people say they'd probably watch it but won't mostly because of the length

One piece is very intimidating when you open the episode list and see 600+ episodes.

I wouldn't say that's quite it, but it's part of it. It just gets tiring seeing the same few shows over and over. And it doesn't help when they're shows you didn't think were all that amazing lol.

This x1000. This is pretty much the only anime community I will ever post in. Every other place has their collective circle jerk and god forbid you go against it. While there are a few shows that are generally more well liked over here, we're generally a lot more diverse and even if you have an opinion that might be somewhat contrary to the majority you aren't jumped on for it.

A lot of people cite One Piece's length as a deterrent to them watching it, which is understandable, but if you actually end up watching the show and liking it, it's one of the best parts of the show. The absolutely massive story. And for me personally it's never felt like the show should of ended by now. There's a clearly defined goal for the show and everything following up to it so far has felt like it fell right in line with the story. One Piece is about the journey, not the destination and the show has only improved as its gone on. Heck, the latest arc in the manga right now is looking like it might be one of the best in the show so far.

I like how big it is too, but you could easily cut it down to half the episodes by cutting out loads of "flashback" scenes and alot of drawing out lol.

I don't know if I'd say half lol. Maybe 1/4. One Piece doesn't have a whole lot of filler though, especially in comparison to the other never ending shounens.

Samurai Flamenco 07 - Jesus Christ now I know what people were talking about. That twist was crazy as fuck. I knew about the Gorilla but I didn't expect it to be so damn crazy. That part where the police officer got his head cut off was quite surprising.

Damn I can't imagine what it would have been like had I not know what was coming.

It was the biggest 180 I've ever seen in a show. I thought the next episode we'd be finding out the anime trolled us or something lol.

Punk Hazard was pretty bad in that regard lol. Lots of flashbacks and just bad pacing and filler in general. So many dragged out scenes lol. Lets draw a panning shot of these mountains for 30 seconds! One Piece is really a show that needs to be marathoned. My enjoyment of the anime dropped significantly as soon as I caught up and was stuck with one episode a week.

one thing I remember when I was in the mood for one piece was almost every episode had a 2+ minute recap (only did 50 or so)

Samurai Flamenco 11 - This show is absolutely crazy, this episode especially. It's completely full blown sentai now. Reminded me of when I used to watch Power Rangers as a kid. After the ending of episode 10 I wasn't sure what to expect (Mari singing during the credits was pretty fucked) but after this I have no idea where this show is going. It keeps switching from comedic/fun to dark, while at the same time upping the scale each episode. Really interested in seeing where this ends up.

Though I do have a prediction. With how the entire show is going, I wouldn't be surprised if Red Axe becomes an enemy. This episode alone he used the phrase 'It was a lie. But a beautiful lie' and I wouldn't be surprised if he uses it again. It could go two ways, though. He could be the final villain and use the phrase at the beginning of the fight, saying he was lying the entire time and wanted to fight the greatest superhero.

Or he would say it before the final boss. He would once again say he was lying the entire time using the phrase, but after the fight, he would say it again. The second lie would be that he was lying about the first lie, and that his real motive was to prepare Flamenco for the final fight; the whole 'student overcomes the master' trope. He had to make sure Flamenco was prepared to go up against he final boss. With how the show is going, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens somewhere.

Or the entire thing could turn out to be a film. I have no idea.

    Too tired to quote so.

I actually loved Trigger when LWA came out day of and am backing their kickstarter for LWA2 so I was super excited for KLK. First episode was amazing, but I lost slight interest in the few episodes after that. Now though I feel back in full force and am absolutely loving it. I'm not even a shouneny-loving type.

To One Piece, I'm allowed to say I don't like it just because I watched 118 episodes of it.

    SamFlam - Still hoping it's a deconstruction.

    Cthuko -
btw check what I had to say in the previous post: “Flying a kite evermore” [emphasis added now]
No one actually got it surprisingly.

How'd you make it to ep 118 while not liking the show lol?

  17. #23277
Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann are just fun and over the top, nothing spectacular or ground breaking. Mindless fun is great, but a lot of people scream about them being the best things ever, which I'd have to disagree with.

    pls I don't know.

Monogatari - oh.. oh my... that... that ending......... that... ending................

Scene at the train was brilliant. Absolutely godly.

Tokyo Ravens 11 - I love when they crack jokes about something like porn mags or something. The "his tastes are vanilla" got me cracking up.

Pls, what's in the closet. This is even worse than Monogatari.

Kon in the jacket is heart attack inducing.

    11 best episode 10/10

    Kon most adorable 11/10

    Suzuka best girl 12/10

Tokyo Ravens 12 - Sensei is such a beast he can drive without looking at the road. I want to be like him when I grow up. I wouldnt' have even realized that ending... and the OP had such a spoiler in it too, damnit.

Difference between BD/TV for the newer BD's for Monogatari. Hot damn some of them.

Are they really so vanilla, though? Remember: he always has Kon, with appearance of 10 year old kemonomimi girl, watching over him in one way or another. Despite that, he still has, and probably uses, porn magazines. I call shenenigans.
