New to computer building, Question about parts.

I have a question regarding the parts I've chosen for my computer I'm building. My question is does all this go together? I'm not the most computer savvy person, relatively new to building/maintaining computers. I do plan on to Crossfire the video card and buy 2 more of the Memory sticks. I'm just building it so I can play SC2, WoW, and Diablo 3 (whenever it comes out) mostly. Any hints and help would greatly be appreciated. I will have someone who is expert in building computers helping me build it. He is just unavailable at the moment.

Looks good, I'd rather get a 6870 though, about 10% faster and has better CF scaling. Are you sure you need the Crosshair as any 890FX board would be sufficent. No need to get more memory either as most apps you are going to use are 32bit and cannot utilize that much memory.

Ahh ok cool. Is the Crosshair that much of a difference with a 890FX mobo, that's it's sorta pointless? 6870 cards are out of my budget, unless the price drops with the release of the 69XX series.

Switch the CPU to a Phenom II x4 965/970. Are better for gaming in general than the AMD 6 cores. Also if you're just going to use that computer for gaming 4GB RAM is all you need.

With 8GB, you'll have about 4GB constantly idle. Basically, it's a waste of cash if you don't do something memory intensive like video editing, CAD, etc.

    That makes sense. G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600, is that a more suitable memory type?

I'm using a set of G.Skill RAM. It's not Ripjaws series (it's just below it, I believe). They're a good quality brand.

Also, I second dropping the 6-core CPU down to a quad-core. The Phenom II x4 965 was actually benchmarking higher than the 1090T. It's pretty much just like the RAM scenario. There isn't much in the way of gaming that will use more than a quad-core CPU. So you end up with cores sitting idle doing nothing.

850W is kinda over the top if you aren't running dual GPU's...

    Could save 100 bucks getting a 955/965BE...

Could save another 10 bucks with a Samsung Spinpoint drive...

A single 6870 is better than the 5850 by a small margin. Saves you $50 also to put towards the next card if you decide you want to Crossfire eventually.

As mentioned, an 850 watt PSU is way overkill for this build, so I would suggest something between 600 and 700 watts. Here's a good example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371021

I'd reccomend finding a SSD. A cheap 60GB will do, even just running your OS off of it you'll find a WORLD of difference in speed.

No. A small SSD is a waste, as you will get an OS and WoW on there and that's it. Get one > 128GB if you get one so that all your important programs can be on there, not just WoW/OS (unless that's all you run..)

drop the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula unless you are planing to do some heavy OC....... the board are ment for heavy OCìng

drop the 6 core for the Phenom II x4 965. the Phenom II x4 965 does it better in games

drop the 8 GB RAM. 8 GB is overkill for gaming.

get a 650W PSU insted of the 850W.

the gfx card you have choosen is faster then the 6870. the SAPPHIRE Toxic 100282-2GTXSR Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 2GB is a ocèd card and it is faster then the normal 6870
