Weren't they going to do some thing about this in cataclysm? I'm sure I read a blue post on it

a Timer would be great, 10 seconds and the loot becomes free for all.
I never knew how many ppl actually don't loot the mobs until I lvled a skinner. On a side note, if you are doing alot of randoms and not looting, you are missing out on a lot of gold from vendoring all that stuff. Which I have made over 50g a run by vendoring all the stuff I got from a random. 50g isn't much but if you are doing chain heroics, it starts to add up.
The problem I normally run into while doing a random is feeling the need to stab myself in the eyes while dealing with people who either don't know their class, think they know their class, and finally don't know their class and think they know their class so they think they are hot shit. I just want to get through this as fast as I can so I have to deal with the mountain of bads and basically carry them into good gear or money as little as possible..
But that's just me. I can understand wanting to be able to freely skin them.
its my loot to not loot :P
on another note why not make it where skiners have the same problem enchanters have where we get to roll for your skin?
-Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.
-Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.
-Never miss a good chance to shut up.
one of the many reasons i hate lfg and the lack of accountability makesing me run with only guildies in cata :P

I dont loot, im a tank and rather want speed then loot, its relly a waste of time and if a dps starts to skinn its even more waste of time.
but cata will fixe it for you Loot a rang
I never knew how many people don't loot, until i leveled skinning on an alt.
They just should make something like it is always possible to skin the corpse, and if it hasn't been looted yet, leave something like dust or a carcass (don't know if you spell it like this?) or something like that behind to loot
I am with miss benedict, 10 seconds pass and then the loot on the dead body becomes free for all
Because Skinning is a gathering profession, while Enchanting is a crafting profession. Disenchant is comparable to Milling or Prospecting, not a gathering profession.
The green they're getting mats from is a green you would have lost the Greed roll for in the first place. Those mats were never yours. All the system does is prevent you getting asked to disenchant stuff constantly.
Dungeons used to be a group activity, not a gear treadmill where the interactions of others doing anything but getting you to the final boss as fast as possible was unacceptable. I am a complete elitist capable of scrutiny of the highest degree, but when it comes to dungeons and the common man I have a soft spot. Let them skin, if you're not a good enough dps to make up for the lack of theirs for the few moments it takes than you're not worth being there in the first place.
If it's a tank or a healer skinning thats another story, but I would kill everything and then go back for them so that they can skin the mobs. There was once a time when one additional unnecessary pull of mobs would be guarding a locked chest, and the rogue would speak up and saying "can we please kill that". Under the reign of you that answer would be no, and I find that terribly wrong. It's one thing of someones secondary need took you 50 steps in the other direction, it's another if it takes you seven to the side. Be considerate to others or play with only friends
AND it drives down mat prices and kills tips for deing (Amazing, but yes, chanters used to get tipped to do this). If one aspect of a trade profession is eligible for rolling on, all should be, including mining, skinning and herbalism.
I normally don't loot though. Granted, there are a few exceptions. If the group slows down due to a brb or the like I'll loot, if the skinner asks nicely I'll loot. Other then that it's generally not worth it though.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

It's always worth it to loot the greys and cloth items off of a corpse. I tell you this as a player who has hit the gold cap multiple times and purchased a new computer every expansion from money made selling gold. As far as time investment goes, loot as you go if it's already dead than you've just wasted your time not killing it and not the other way around.

It's not double standards, it's just being realistic. A dps not attacking will not cause a wipe, a tank not tanking will not cause a wipe either but the group will not advance, a healer not healing will cause a wipe. Therefore other approaches must be made accordingly, thankfully 60% of the group is DPS so odds are they are going to be the ones skinning.
They did say they would let you skin mobs with loot on at one point, but its still preferable to not loot a mob, because then the person not looting is faster and they stop you wasting 2 seconds skinning for the lowest cost gathering prof mats in game
Side note I've all but stopped looting other than down time in most of my instances, even in guild runs with skinners I'd rather put it on free for all than waste time looting
I have a skinner alt and I still don't loot on any of my toons. It's a waste of time to stand around and watch a person skin every mob and then constantly piss and moan about a mob not being looted because "ZOMG I CAN'T SKIN IT! BUT IT SAYS IT WANTS TO BE SKINNED!!! LET ME SKIN IT!" They act like leather face on a drug binge. Seriously, if you need skins do what every other gathering profession has to do and go farm them outside dungeons. Yes, I know there a few herbs to be found via instances and even less mining nodes. You don't however see miners and herbalists wasting everyone else's time having to stop every two seconds because they missed a small patch of fur on a fluffy.
dungeon mobs give best skinning loots though. least in heroics, on average I get more arctic fur/icy dragon scales/multiple skins then I do skinning regular mobs outside of dungeons, besides. I stop, skin, and still manage on average to pull top dps on my hunter. considering most people don't care about heroics anyway I don't see the problem
fuck you greedy bastards how bout that
