Cata Release Time

I'm posting this to clear up confusion and maybe mmo-champ should put something up on the home page somewhere if they have the chance, but Cata goes live December 7th, PST. This means exactly what most of you think it means, You will be able to play Cata at 12:01 PST, or 3:01 EST. It does not matter where you are in the world or when you get the game, it all revolves around Blizzard doin their thing in Cali. So people please stop saying things like "The east coast will be able to play 3 hours before the west coast! whoo hoo!" This has been confirmed by Blizzard and blue postage.

p.s. this is not a rage post but rather some helpful info to clear up the confusion.

what I am curious to know is will we have to re-log at 12:00 AM or will Blizzard open up the expac to those who already have it DL'd/installed without doing a server reset/having us re-log?

thats a good question. I'd imagine that the servers will reset or something so blizz can hit the magical "cata on" button. Another good question is, will we have regular server maintenance on that teusday? Would seem kinda bass ackwards to have a huge release at midnight then shut the servers down at 5am.

They'll probably have the scheduled maintenance the day beforehand or have a larger one the week before or after. Possibly.

Almost certainly the same as what happens when a Seasonal Event happens. At the appropriate time the decorations and quest givers suddenly appear. No patching, no server restarts are required for a seasonal eventas all the code is live it only needs the start time. My guess is its the same for Cata as all the code is there and flagged as requiring Cataclysm account. So as soon as the time ticks over into the launch date my guess is that the questgivers will appear and things like the flight trainers will suddenly know to teach us old world flying etc.

I am sure there will be rolling restarts or a 15 min maintenance that they did for all the other expacs. Servers always go down at some point and come back with new content.

while your probably 100% correct and there will be no errors, id still recommend everyone relog just to be safe. I had to do it a few times when wrath launched to help with a lot of problems such as phasing, and some of the quest givers/trainers.

Oh I don't believe there will be no errors. I believe that servers will crash as 1000+ people per server land in Mount Hyjal simulteneously.

So it's your opinion that a thread aimed at "clearing things up" that contains bad information should be left to its own devices? At least the mod allowed it to continue to be discussed. If you ask me, it should have been locked at reply #2.

I don't care a great deal of even getting the expansion on the first day, so this isn't a big deal for me. Although I was toying with the idea of going with a friend for the midnight release just for fun. Would've sucked if we couldn't play it for another 3 hours after.
