1, their guild might be having 10% xp(level 2 Fast Track) reward because of some crazy leveling due to guild achievements.
2, on beta to ding 83 you need around 4:30, so that's highly possible.

well getting to lvl 81 takes hardly anytime. get 50% from daillies and the rest from caverns instance. so many quests there

Nobody will level with +10% experience. It required guild level 2, and there's a cap on how much guild xp you can get per day. Nobody can get guild level 2 until 4 days after Cata.

Go blackrock caverns till 82 then deepholm, and you will win the leveling race. Don't even think about going vash'jir if you're going for realmfirst.
