FPS "Hiccups": ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics Card (Laptop)

Normally I run WoW fine. Outside of cities I get a constant 60 FPS and in cities I get ~40 FPS, regardless of which settings I choose. When I enter do instances or heroics though, I come across problems. On pulls I lag for ~ 1 second then the game goes back to running smooth at my normal FPS. It isn't latency lag, the game doesn't have to catch back up, it just stops for a second. It happens on the pull, the first time I switch targets, and occasionally when mechanics in the fights happen. I've tried to alter my settings in every way I can think of. I was playing on Ultra minus shadows. I lowered it to the bare minimum including projected textiles and the problem still insists. I have reinstalled my graphics card driver, tweaked the ATI Catalyst settings to performance rather than quality, set the priority of wow to real time through ctrl+alt+del processes. Nothing seems to really work so I am out of ideas, and I came for help. I have looked everywhere on the internet and I've seen people with the same sounding problem, so I'm assuming it has to do with my graphics card. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Man i'm sorry that i'll be off topic, i'm not sure how to solve your problem ,but I wanna ask you something, hope you don't mind :S. Your laptop seems to be the EXACT one i'm buying around day 2 or 3 January. Is it by any chance, Toshiba Satellite L650-1FU? If it is I need to ask you some things, hope you don't get mad at me for going off topic on this but hopefully it's just a convo between you and me:P

No it is not. It is an Acer Aspire 7741.

First things first, just to be sure, you are gaming with the AC adapter plugged in, right? Most laptops have slight stuttering when on battery power.
Right, so if it's not that, could you go to the power settings at the lower right corner of your taskbar (a charging battery icon of some sort usually) and set this to "High Performance", and report back if that solved your problem.

Alright, seems like the only (apparent) difference between yours and mine is the trademark. Let me just ask you, do you get 60 fps in ALL the zones? Even the new ones of Cataclysm? Around Deepholm, Twilight Highlands etc.

Also, the 40 fps you have is in Orgrimmar with tons and tons of population? Huge masses, or is it a desert city?

That's all i promise :P, thanks a LOT in advance mate.

I get 60 FPS alone most of the time. My server always has a que time so it is full. Hopefully that helps. Don't worry about the question.. It's okay.

Right, so in Orgrimmar with all these people, you won't go under 38-40 FPS's even on Ultra (with shadow lowered yeah, but I plan to do that anyway, shadows suck >.<)

Yes, I saw that fix posted on another topic I was looking at. It didn't fix the problem at all. Sorry I did miss it, my bad.

Right, now that we've got that established, could you tell us what AddOns you are running?

Could you try and run up a dungeon/where you get the stutter, without these addons running? If the stutter doesn't appear anymore I'd suggest enabling these addons one at a time and see which one is causing it, and reinstall/update it.
However, if the stutter is still present, I'm pretty much clueless.

I've been having similar issues, running on a desktop. Just randomly ingame, will have fps stutters where it drops to 20 fps if not lower momentarily. There are threads about it on the technical forums, but as of now, I think Blizzard is still looking for a fix, or trying to figure out what is causing the problem. All my issues started since 4.03, I think.

Hi, are you playing wow with flash players in the background? I recently bought an ATI card and installed it and had fps hiccups when I tried to watch youtube videos in my background, if that IS your problem then rightclick on the flashplayer and disable hardware acceleration, it seems to be a problem with ati cards and adobe flash player, if you're getting these hiccups without flash videos in the background i dunno what to say, sorry

All my issues started since 4.03, I think.
If it's random I suggest checking your temperatures.

However, if the stutter is still present, I'm pretty much clueless.
Still persists with no addons. Thank you for trying to help!

Well it isn't a drop to 20 FPS. The frame stops moving for 1-2 seconds. Then jumps back up to normal.

I was just in a heroic and sitting in Org shortly afterwards. That is just a quick look at it. (realized that post wasn't directed to me, figured it would be useful to post them though)

My son's Acer Aspire (AS5740G-6979) with the same video card does the exact same thing. His CPU is the Intel Core i5-430M(2.26GHz), but other than that it is pretty much the same machine. I'm guessing some sort of 3rd party utility that they include on these machines, a bios setting, or something like that. Also, it seems to happen in other games as well (Team Fortress 2 for instance), so it might also be a network card setting. Have you tried any other games J50?
