    Archaeology trinket viable for shadow?

I've heard mixed response's on this subject, Tyrande's favorite doll has alot of intellect, but compared to several other 346 herioc trinkets, how does it fair?

I dug this up yesterday and I had toyed with the idea of using it myself. However, after some thought I decided it is not the best choice, but its a decent choice if you're gearing up for raiding.

    Using the following scale factors:

    _______________Int_____Spirit____SP______Hit_____Crit____Haste__Mastery
    Scale Factors___2.9607__1.1188__2.3045__1.1152__1.2151__1.5745__1.1592
    Normalized_____1.0000__.3779__.7784____0.3767__0.4104__0.5318__0.3915

    Tyrande's Favorite Doll: 321 Intellect + Proc
    • 5250 damage once per minute = 87.5 DPS*
    • 321 Intellect = 950.3847
    • Total = 1037.884 DPS
*This assumes you use it every minute with attacking one target with the AOE

    • 4200 damage once per minute @ 5 targets = 437.5
    • 321 Intellect = 950.3847
    • Total = 1387.8847 DPS
**This assumes you use it every minute with attacking seven targets with the AOE (I don't feel this is reliable enough to pull off)

Figurine - Jeweled Serpent: 285 Intellect, 1425 Spell Power for 20 seconds every 2 minutes.
    • 285 Intellect =843.7995
    • 1425 Spell Power Proc = 547.31875
    • Total = 1391.11825 DPS

Heroic Gale of Shadows: 285 Haste, Stacking 17 Spell Power up to 20 stacks.
    • 285 Haste = 448.7325
    • 340 Spell Power from Proc = 783.53
    • Total = 1232.2625 DPS

Unfortunately, I realize not everyone is a Jewel Crafter, but I don't have the internal cool down information of other entry-level trinkets to hypothesize their DPS increase. Either way, this should show that Tyrande's Favorite Doll is not bad, but you should be looking for other entry-level trinkets over this as a DPS trinket.

The use on the doll benefits from the 25% more spell damage you get as a bonus for picking shadow, as such it does 5250 damage, not 4200.

honestly, min-maxing on this level of play is too much of a hassle... nice maths and whatnot but in the end you will never, or hardly ever have the optimal situation for that theoretical 400 dps increase.... Just grab whatever is available to you of whatever feels tasty

This is mostly the point I was trying to make. Its fine to use if you get it, but other lower ilevel trinkets are going to be better for you. Theoretically, you could get a higher DPS gain with the doll, but the complexity in doing so negates the potential gain.

Thank you for pointing that out, I changed the initial post to reflect that.
