Let me ask you a question. What's better (assuming they spend points on the same stats), a green piece of gear item lv300 or a blue piece of gear item lv300? The blue piece, because it has more points spent on itemization then a green piece. The same principle applies to blue vs. epic. Thus, when they drop the gear from epic to blue, the item level would be upped to keep the same amount of points available for itemization.

We can hope that when they add in epic gems again, they'll let us get them with justice points/honor points again
