    A constructive Archaeology thread!

    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1869220731

I posted this on the offical forums and was wondering what everyone though of them.
I would think it would be great if anyone wanted to post constructive comments on that thread as well, so that maybe we can get a little more out of the profession we all love!

well, i skimmed through what you have posted and heres my say on this

ive leveled archeology to max quiet quickly do to the fact im a vanity item-a-holic, and finding coustumes and things of that nature was fun, but blizzard did announce for archeology to be more of a "to kill time till something else happens" profession, yes there are some great items (for example the world ender) which is amazing for dps, but replaceable

making rare items spawn more with more survays would break the system, i for one would love to get my bug mount faster, but that would make others get that same rare item alot faster as well, diminishing its value in rareity making it another vial of sands mount - pointless

I see what you're saying about them being more rare, and therefor being more fun, but rarity it's the fun part for most people.

How do you feel it would break the system? My suggestion offer people who want to farm it hardcore the ability to get rares at a slightly more regular rate and remove the frustrating RNG.

Here's a constructive reply regarding Archaeology. I'm tired of having 4 troll digsites in STV, while I already have Zin'Rokh. Then once you do those 4 troll digsites, you get 4 fossil sites up north, while you have both fossil rares. Then, once you've done those you get 4 more troll sites in STV. I'm tired of this crap. If you have all the rares from one area, you should be able to check a box somewhere that says NO MORE SITES THAT HAVE ALL RARES COMPLETED. Thanks. It would go a long way, w/o drastically speeding up archaeology.

Yeah, I suppose I should go to Kalimdor to go get dwarf artifacts.

If you're lucky, you can. (Bael Modan.)

Perhaps with the new 200 fragment cap implementation they could just cause it to force spawns of races you aren't already capped with? I assume this would go against their goal with archeology being a huge time sink train of thought but it seems like it would calm alot of people down...

I'd be happy if they removed digsites in Mount Hyjal. There's already more than enough damned Night Elf digsites in Kalimdor, and then they go and give you a few more at 450. Completely stupid imo.

    I like that idea.

Personally I'd still want a bug mount even if literally every single other person on the server had one.
The number of people who also have an item shouldn't influence your decision at all, it should just be whether you think it looks nice or not.

I like the RNG in Archaeology. The only "fix" it needs is adding more rare artifacts for the underrepresented races.

I'd be extremely surprised if Blizzard ever allowed a race-exclusion system of any sort, and I wish people would stop suggesting them because of how outlandish the concept really is.

    Why?

Go to Kalimdor and exclude Night Elf; you've wiped out more than half the digsites. They're just not going to let you say no to the majority of sites on a continent. This would more or less restrict your digging to the southern end of the continent (Tanaris's trolls, Un'goro's fossils, and of course Tol'Vir... with the occasional dwarf site in there). It would really defeat the entire spirit of the profession.

Go to Northrend and exclude Vrykul. Same as above.

Go to Outland and exclude one of the races. You suddenly only have one race to dig from. That DEFINITELY defeats the spirit of the profession and will never happen.

Kudos for trying to post a constructive thread, but you have to keep in mind that it's supposed to be a time sink and come up with things that are fun while still keeping with the intent of the profession.

Yeah, I'm totally having fun digging troll sites for only rare I need from the whole profession, and still am after solving 220 troll artifacts. Do you really think it is fun in any remote way to waste your time on something you will get absolutely no reward from?

Then you shouldn't be doing it, if you're not enjoying yourself. Archaeology was never designed for the purpose you are trying to use it for, finding a single artifact. Archaeology was designed as a casual, downtime profession - and if you happen to pick up some cool stuff along the way, then all the better. I get that Zin'rokh is cool. I'd like it too. But I would never grind for it if I wasn't enjoying doing so. It's hardly essential for either PvE or PvP.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bored to it, I'm bored to the fact that our guild warlock got it from his 10th solve.

    Source?
Because if what you say it's true I don't understand why Blizzard put the iLevel 359 items, since it's clear that people committed to their role would try to get them.
