    Saving Pyrite ore

My main is currently a miner, i don't really far or anything but happen to run into a lot of nodes because i spend hours a day camping people in the tol barad peninsula. Currently pyrite ore is selling for doo doo on my server bc it really doesnt have that many uses. What do you guys think about saving Pyrite ore until it's prospectable for epic gem's? does that seem like a good or bad idea, and is anyone currently doing this?

It would probably be a good idea to do this, I'm considering doing a similar thing, and using 3 Pyrite a day along with some volatiles I'm sure I'd get from my farming of it to make a Truegold on my alchemist, just for that little boost in profit.

Epic gems will be introduced in approximately 1 year so...could be a bit too early for that

It's a perfectly good idea to save all your Pyrite ore. It's an investment. Sure you could make a quick buck now, but imagine what you'll make if you have 200 stacks to prospect for epic gems.

Yes, save it if you want to make big profit later on.

Maybe not that long.. Possibly a few months, but imagine: A few months of occasionally farming pyrite, let's say 10-15 a day (Exceptionally casual farming) = About 900 ore or so, that's prospectable in 5's so it's 180 prospects (Oh that'll be fun). Just IMAGINE the amount of money you'd get... Especially if you save JC tokens and learn the most needed epic recipes too.

This is basically what I'm doing. I'm leveling my DK miner to 85 just by mining in Twilight Highlands, and sending all the Ore to my JC Priest main. Hopefully it'll be worth it when the epic gems are released!

Yep my only concern is that pretty much everyone I know thats either a miner or JCer is also stocking up on pyrite, so its quite possible there will be so many people with epic gems that they wont even go for that high :P. I think thats where getting the right patterns/etc will be key though heh.

you can nearly guarentee that there will not be an overflow of epic gems in the first day or 2, and that is when the money is made though. It was a good idea to do this in wrath, and its probably a good idea to do this now.

Are we even sure they are going to add them? Reason I say this is because, IMO, a lot of professions are fairly well balanced atm, in other words, esp after this patch and the fix to LW, many of them have the same benefits.....however, buffing gems is going to give a huge advantage to blacksmiths as they will get more out of their bonuses, and it will nerf the hell out of JC as the JC only gems will be greatly diminished. Unless, that is, they do a profession overhaul and buff them all up which frankly doesn't make much sense to me just to add epic gems.

That's exactly what they did in WotLK. Epic gems were released in the same patch (I believe) in which all of the profession bonuses were buffed to match the 40 stat points from 2 epic gems (the blacksmith equivalent).

Imagine if every Jewelcrafter on your server did the same? and the AH got flooded with epic gems, surely you would be able to see that the prices will drop ridiculous.

back in wrath (on my server) i saw epic gems drop in the first 4 weeks after the patch, to insanely low prices, and after that they stayed at a fair price and then people couldnt bother to farm more, so first at week 7 after patch i was able to sell mine for a clear good price, so if your one of those that will be selling in the first couple of weeks dont expect to get rich as if you had waited some more.

    just my 2cent.

Who is saying that pyrite will get prospected to epic gems at all? Khorium wasn't prospectable at all, Titanium wasn't at first but got changed for the introduction of epic gems. Pyrite is prospectable to blue gems since the very first day. It's not like we have a pattern there...

Sure, you could stash all your pyrite away, but it's a huge risk as no one could ever say for sure they will add epic gems to that ore.
They could just add those gems to vendors and raidloot like in TBC. Or find a another completely different solution
This was what I thought about Locktanking before Scumbag Greg took it away

While this is true, for many people theres not exactly a huge amount of stuff to spend extra gold on so just slowly stocking up on pyrite isnt a horrible idea. Even if Blizzard announces that pyrite wont give epic gems, it will still be worth more than regular ore just based on what you get from prospecting it now, so you really probably wont lose too much. You could lose some gold if you try to unload everything immediately if blizzard announced that, but as long as your patient it wont hurt too much, and the potential for profit is quite large.

They will for sure. Everything is balanced now but in a year we won't be wearing 346 ilvl gear anymore. Gear is gonna scale with each patch release and epic gems will be required sooner or later.

    This right here.

Especially when Pyrite nodes are random and share spawns with elementium... and pyrite sells like shit right now. Theres almost no risk in saving it.

I'm saving... low risk investment. The ore will always have some value even if they don't add epic gems, etc. Unless you're buying it at a high cost today... you stand to make gold either way. Three bank tabs and running...
