whilst in general i approve of the looking for dungeon tool, i feel it is having a heavy impact on the community as a whole through the likelihood of never having to meet the players you are grouped with again.
this is a problem.
it's led to a lot of dissatifaction between users, players who will up and leave the group at the first sign of trouble, abusive players, ninja's and just a general poor attitude eminating from this source of "fun". as i understood it, the implementation of the cross realm dungeon group finder was to help enable people to find a group quickly and easily, without having to sit and spam trade for countless hours with "LF <insert class here> for <insert instance here>".
so the LFD tool comes along and allows you to carry on doing your daily routine whilst sitting in the queue and then jump straight into a dungeon without the hassle of spamming trade. which is a major convenience for many.
what the dungeon finder does not do, which is a MAJOR CRUX imo, is allow for lasting friendships to evolve.
i founded my guild (due to be 3 years old in april) with friends i made on my realm through sitting and spamming trade chat for hours, looking for a healer for TBC heroics. these days, those connections between players aren't being made, you either join the queue and go anonymously about your buisness hoping that the tank or healer doesn't quit or that the hunter doesn't ninja everything, or you sit in SW/org spamming trade for a bit, get bored, then give up and join LFG.
so, my solution, the LFG tool needs updating to allow for a "choose players from my realm" option.
whilst this doesn't mean instant queues, it does at least mean that whoever you end up with in your group can easily be held accountable for any misdemeanors as they play on the same server and cant easily dissapear into the ether after the end of the run. it also allows you to ACTUALLY MAKE FRIENDS!! making friends ingame through the dungeon finder just doesn't seem possible anymore - the best way to describe it, is with a quote from fight club, "single serving friends".
back in the days of tbc before the dungeon finder, you used to make a group from trade, go do a dungeon and if you liked the people in your group, or had a good run, you would add them to your friends list and make more groups with them - eventually resulting in a large enough group of friends to actually get a raid running.
whilst the dungeon finder tool serves it's purpose of making groups, it has done nothing for the community other than make more players suspiscious of every other player they meet through LFG. this needs to be rectified and i think the developers would be fools not to add in an option for "my server only". so you can join the LFG queue, go about your daily business and hopefully make some actual friends on your server leading to long fulfilling friendships, guilds and most importantly injecting some fun back into this fractured community.
TL: DR
the convenience of the LFG tool is awesome, the cross realm douchebags you can end up grouped with, not so awesome. we need a my realm only option
