"my realm only" option for LFG is sorely needed

whilst in general i approve of the looking for dungeon tool, i feel it is having a heavy impact on the community as a whole through the likelihood of never having to meet the players you are grouped with again.

    this is a problem.

it's led to a lot of dissatifaction between users, players who will up and leave the group at the first sign of trouble, abusive players, ninja's and just a general poor attitude eminating from this source of "fun". as i understood it, the implementation of the cross realm dungeon group finder was to help enable people to find a group quickly and easily, without having to sit and spam trade for countless hours with "LF <insert class here> for <insert instance here>".

so the LFD tool comes along and allows you to carry on doing your daily routine whilst sitting in the queue and then jump straight into a dungeon without the hassle of spamming trade. which is a major convenience for many.

what the dungeon finder does not do, which is a MAJOR CRUX imo, is allow for lasting friendships to evolve.

i founded my guild (due to be 3 years old in april) with friends i made on my realm through sitting and spamming trade chat for hours, looking for a healer for TBC heroics. these days, those connections between players aren't being made, you either join the queue and go anonymously about your buisness hoping that the tank or healer doesn't quit or that the hunter doesn't ninja everything, or you sit in SW/org spamming trade for a bit, get bored, then give up and join LFG.

so, my solution, the LFG tool needs updating to allow for a "choose players from my realm" option.

whilst this doesn't mean instant queues, it does at least mean that whoever you end up with in your group can easily be held accountable for any misdemeanors as they play on the same server and cant easily dissapear into the ether after the end of the run. it also allows you to ACTUALLY MAKE FRIENDS!! making friends ingame through the dungeon finder just doesn't seem possible anymore - the best way to describe it, is with a quote from fight club, "single serving friends".

back in the days of tbc before the dungeon finder, you used to make a group from trade, go do a dungeon and if you liked the people in your group, or had a good run, you would add them to your friends list and make more groups with them - eventually resulting in a large enough group of friends to actually get a raid running.

whilst the dungeon finder tool serves it's purpose of making groups, it has done nothing for the community other than make more players suspiscious of every other player they meet through LFG. this needs to be rectified and i think the developers would be fools not to add in an option for "my server only". so you can join the LFG queue, go about your daily business and hopefully make some actual friends on your server leading to long fulfilling friendships, guilds and most importantly injecting some fun back into this fractured community.

    TL: DR

the convenience of the LFG tool is awesome, the cross realm douchebags you can end up grouped with, not so awesome. we need a my realm only option

you know you can still make groups the old fashion way via trade spamming and stuff? you CAN get a group of people from only your realm, there's no need at all for LFD to have such an option. people had no problems doing dungeons before LFD you know...

sorry i have a tendency to waffle, added a TL: DR

I really like this idea. Then perhaps people will behave themselves a little bit in lfd. Back before lfd, reputation mattered on a server.

convenience factor - why spam trade for 45 mins, when you could queue for 45 mins and get dailies/farming done in that time

Your realm has douche bags too, that's why I relied on guildies during TBC most of the time.

TL;DR version: Realm only isn't gonna solve it.

At least put "only same language realms" -option in the LFG. Annoying to have 3 members talking Italian and not understanding a word of english.

You lost me at lasting friendships. Really? You think chatting with someone over the internet, behind the veil of* anonymity and at your complete convenience means you're their friend? No. And I know the Fight Club reference, too. And wow "friends" define it. They're not there with you day-to-day. You're not hanging out. Your relationships are as superficial as one can possibly be and though, yes, it can happen that people really do meet up and hang out, that's once in a blue moon. Well, more likely if you fall into a sordid online relationship with another wow player, which I won't even begin to discuss. I'm sure you can see why by my tone.

And by the way, nothing is stopping you from getting a group together yourself if you really feel so motivated. LFG is a godsend for people not wanting to waste time trying to find people to run with.

Agreed. Back when I dinged my first character to 70 (mage) and was in greens/blues I ran a random normal Mechanar (first instance at lvl cap) and had lots of fun with the people in my group. The rogue that was in the group must've added me to his buddy list, as the next day I got a random whisper from him if I wanted to join his instances. Got connections, eventually joined a very nice guild, all through friendships from instancing with people you've never met before. Such an option would be really nice.

Would be nice with stats of how many dungeouns a play has been kicked from or how many times he have left himself etc. etc.

As a tank, i approve this. I wouldnt mind a little longer queue so i run with people from my realm.
People take stupidity to a whole new level when they sit in front of a computer.

This is long gone, people will just change their names. And voila they can easily go on about their busniess.

I do wish there was a retard filter or something for LFG system, getting people who act like they are braindead is not exactly fun.

So everytime someone acts like a douchebag they have to spend 15$ to change their names ?

I mean..this is how we have been creating groups for over 4 years in Classic and TBC - so why not show some initiative yourself, if you like to have a more social environment?
you obviously just read the TL: DR at the bottom, i have my own guild, my own friends and made them myself from spamming trade. my concern is for newer players that join LFG, experience the douchebaggery of someone from another realm and quit before realising the potential of their own.

why should i sit and spam trade, when i could join a "my realm only" dungeon queue and get the same result without wasting my time standing around SW/org

    Good post.

People who recommended spaming LFG in trade obviously don't realize, that with the dungeon finder, people are sitting in cities much less now while queuing for an instance and even IF they are, paying much less attention to trade, since it got a lot less relevant now.

So spamming trade for forming a group is not a valid tactic anymore. The OP considered that in his post anyway.

P.S. @ OP: Your wall of text would be a lot more readable if you used capitalization.

I totally agree, the anonymity the lfg tool allows breeds bad people being bad, and good people getting lost.

There was a LFG channel people were sitting in. I cant remember when exactly it was but people were in there with their respective rolls and with a comment like "Moo! Im a cow and I can take a beating!"
It generally got ignored. No wait Im pretty sure it still does get ignored because they havent removed it.
You still need to spam it /4 macros are the usual.

I do agree on the option for it although I wouldnt make use of it too often. The people on my server are pretty damn stupid as is so in a rnd group from a different server at least I get to be a dick
