Boomkin threat : Does it hold you back?

So i was just wondering if any other boomkins are haveign threat issues early and often in boss fights?. From my experience after the immediate focus target for trash, we just tab target in order not to pull anything since starsurge could crit for 85k at any moment with the right procs. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/characte.../captin/simple Here is a link to my boomkin. As of now i obviously have too much mastery, BiS nothing, and slowly changing that. Our guild instuituted a loot council system to gear our healers and tanks first so the gear has been slowly coming my way but it will get here eventually, im an officer in my guild and fully supported this system.

Now, with my 352 i lvl 346-359 gear i pull 13-18k depending on the fight but can never fully reach my potential since im having to stop dps to let aggro build every now and then. First thought is get better tanks right? no, they show up every night, never lose aggro, and study the fights before we attempt them, their good. Most classes that have large burst to produce too much threat get an aggro drop of some sort, but not boomkins. I am and have always been a Night Elf Druid, the reason being shadowmeld ( or shadowfail as i like to call it ) is the only thing remotely close to an aggro drop boomkins have access to.

Since BC i have been a big fan of double potting, pop one 2 sec before agro so you have a 2nd for hero, and since blizz left hast pots off the menu this expansion i prefer the volcanic potion which is 1200 spell power for 20 sec. Im also an herbalist for lifeblood, the 2 min cd that gives 450 haste for 20 sec. With my volcanic card that procs almost always on the first cast for 1600 intel, which is 1600 crit and spell power, its just not viable to pop cd's in teh beginning of the fight without wasting half of them and having to shadowmeld to hopefully let the tanks catch up. Hopefully this will change as the gear gets better or blizz FINALLY gives us a threat drop.

If anyone has tips or suggestions on how to keep your aggro down they would be much appreciated. Im strongly debating switching my main since this problem has persisted since wrath with no thought to improving it. Srry for the rant and any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have to completely stop dpsing all the time. Here's an armory http://us.battle.net/wow/en/characte...lcapone/simple . Dps at the start of boss fights requires a salvation from our hpally, or i have no chance at all to do anything but a few wraths/dots. Even late into the fight i come close on threat, example being Valiona/theralion. I am pulling 15k+ On bosses, up to 25k burst with no threat drop other than cower. Hell, I've even had to start going cat and cowering when the boss decides to run over and eat me.

Just take it easy in the beginning, you don't have to go: OMGDOTDOTSTARFALLSHOOTINGSTARSPROCNOOKNOOKBAMDEADCHICKEN.
Apply your dots, get lunar shower going and jump around like a headless chicken.

I would love a ranged threat drop/misdirect, even if it took me out of moonkin form.

The problem isnt boomkin threat, the problem is the player themselves. Instead of popping off moonfire or something else the instant the tank gets to the target (and really not having much aggro because they havent even hit the target yet) and being up the tanks ass the whole time, give them a second or 2 to use one of their high threat moves and then unleash

He is mainly asking for a threat drop, and even if i wait 5-10 seconds I still pull threat half the time. Boomkin threat is a problem

If you give a 2 sec count then give me your rotation, bc i give a 5 count and still this happens, even at the end of fights. Salv from a pally is good but we only run with 2 palliies and they usually salve our dk's that are pulling 20k+ right now. Boomkins have always been bad on aggro sir, bad troll is bad

Maybe its tank threat thats the problem? I see lots of tanks who just dont care about threat, they are nowhere near the hit or expertise caps and just dont care. If you are waiting like that (most boomkins dont wait at all) and still pulling threat, talk to your raid leader and tank, because the tank isnt doing something right.

I actually don't have threat issues when running heroics with guild groups (balance is my offspec). I wait until the tank has reached the boss and starts to build threat, then I unload everything I got on the sucker :P
sometimes I get close to pulling aggro, but I just keep going in good faith xD
Being a night elf, I got shadowmeld for when/if I pull aggro. Doesn't lower threat, but at least keeps the boss off me until the tank can taunt and build more threat.

I'm the only person in the group with threat issues. It's a matter of my threat being too high with no reasonable drop, not the tank doing badly. I would give up 2 talent points for threat reduction.

"The problem isnt boomkin threat, the problem is the player themselves." Was the trolling statment, if you read the whole article you would see that its not just me with aggro problems, yet that statment would disprove the whole thread were it true. Now my refutment is that 5 boomkins saw and posted in 10 min about threat issues their having, i think those odds are in my favor.

Oh guys.... at least you do DPS. I remember back in BC, Gruul e.g., me as Ret paladin.... We produced way more aggro than others did compared to their DPS.

As long as you do enough dmg, there is nothing wrong with pausing dmg. :>

No, its not a trolling statement. The majority of boomkins moonfire the target before the tank even gets there, causing aggro problems throughout the fight. If it was a troll post i would have said it was the OP that was the problem. Yes boomkin threat is higher than most, that doesnt mean that other players should have to manage theirs less... tanks included.

Ok r8, heres where your wrong in your statment, and btw thank you for proving mine. ANY boomkin that starts their rotation with moonfire should roll another class bc starting with IS gives you a natures grace proc. Need i say more? Boomin threat is much more then an annoyance, Omen singe to me every 10 sec of every fight. No stopping dps doesnt usually make of break the fight But in my opinion blizz has a broken class mechanic on their hands if you need to stop to let the tanks catch up.

Tbh I have very little threat issues, Tanks are producing enough threat that I don't even need to look at it. My Max peak amount is like there lowest point. The ONLY threat issues are tanks picking up an add like on Cho'gall ect... where they have only just got to it and I maybe over nuke, but that's just me. I wont lie I would like a threat drop ect if things change on tanks threat, but I don't feel currently that its needed.

Long story short, No threat issues at all.

ive had boomkins unload 100% into a boss from the start and i didn't lose agro(the boomkin does like 19k in 10 man) speaking as the tank i was a solid 15-20% above alll dps like 95% of the time.

I'm on the same side as you, having threat issues as moonkin since the very first time on this expansion.

On hcs and normal raids i don't give a shit, u can just sit there waiting all ur life for the tank to get enough threat.
But when u start doing raid hcs were u need to push ur dps to the max since the very first milisecond of the pull the situation is fucking annoying and what annoys me the most is looking at how our lock, dk or mage can go all in without any problem/punishment, so unfair.
I can start with my normal rotation treants(if they are rdy again when hero)+starfall(if only 1 target)+IS+MF (thats almost 5-6sec) and then i have to stop for like 2 or 3 more seconds (sometimes while waiting i even do the 3xFF), wish i could follow immediatly with an starsurge and then the usual rotation but if the first starsurge crits then "oh shit..." and/or if i get an starsurge proc immediatly aftert applying those dots i get even more sad.

Don't think it is a tank problem (yes, they are hit and expertise cap), we raid without a hunter or rogue tho... soooo missing one of them..... a lot!.

Atm they are just "wasting" one salvation on me at the beginning so i can go all in and like 1min later in the fight they use another one on me.

I think if they lower the threat on starsurge then we should be ok.

The problem here isn't reliant on the player skill or lack of skill, but lies in the boomkin being the only ranged class without a threat dump of any kind.

    Hunter - Feign
    Mage - Invis + Mirror(?)
    Warlock - Soul Shatter
    Priest - Fade
    Elemental Shaman - Wind Shear

Now we've managed pretty well this far without it, but we've also never been this strong. If we are being asked to not explode off the bat on a boss that'd be like asking a defensive tackle to give the quarterback some breathing room instead of exploding off the snap and sacking him. Granted sometimes we get a little carried away and get an offsides, but we shouldn't have to hold back when all other classes can let loose.

no cause my gears not very good

359+ geared tanks put out absurd amounts of threat, so no, I never have threat issues.
