    MMO-Champion: a request

I am a fairly new member, but I wanted to say I appreciate the site and the active community. I do have one request/idea. I'd really like to log on and read about Cataclysm related threads that are positive.

I know, I know. Don't click on the negative ones. But right now, General is being overwhelmed with complainers and whiners. It is just annoying and stressful. If I wanted to see people argue, I would go on to political debate forums.

I believe everyone has a right to their opinion and should be free to express it. It would just be nice to have a General forum (separate from the current one, I don't want to change the current one) that is for people who actually want to discuss Cataclysm...not complain about it. A "General No-QQ" forum where I can just go hang out with other people like myself who like the game and want to have a mature discussion about different aspects.

To be clear, I don't mind a post where they are talking about ways of improving Tol Barad or something like that...just none of the "Will you quit WoW?" "Blizzard tells you what to think" "The game is BROKE" type threads which have taken over.

Well, tbh, SOME people are unhappy with this game (see SOME not ALL). They think that by coming here and posting threads about QQmyclassisbrokeQQ they will receive some type of validation. And they probably will. Its much easier to hide behind a computer screen and complain.

You just need to sift out the good threads. I post every once in awhile just cause I have a somewhat different view of things. Such as "Will you quit WoW?" I post my pinon, which is usually to a different aside.

It comes down to though, that this is a public forum and people are entitled to post w/e they feel like. The mods make sure it does not get out of hand and they do delete a ton of threads a day that most of us users do not even notice.

Take the threads with a grain of salt is my message. There are good threads, but they are few and far between lol.
Gold selling site spam is an important part of our eco system.

You see, there are currently to many puppies and kittens on this world.
Every time a Goldseller spams his advertisement on the mmo-champion site, a puppy dies.
Every time you ignore these threads and don't report them, a kitten dies.

Yeah, I was just hoping this would create a Forum dedicated to good threads. Probably unrealistic, but a guy can dream

Well it's not really a very interesting forum if everyone agrees that it's all perfect and blizzard should get a gold star.

A wise quote from an IRC chat I don't have a link to: 'It's like you're all just sitting there, waiting for something you disagree with' - that's pretty much the entire internet, combined with porn and spam.

  5. #5
Well, threads that are simple "QQ THIS SUCKS" or "I'M GOING ON A RANT 'COS I ANNOYED" pretty much all get closed.
Hopefully people will get the message and stop making them sooner or later, or at least cut down on it.
It also doesn't help that people constantly reply to crying threads =P

Though, if people have legitimate reasons to be upset / annoyed / angry about something and want to discuss it in a reasonable way it would be unfair to close them and if you don't like them I'm afraid you will just have to ignore them ;]

    Hehe, wouldn't we all.

Well, I can say that we do our best to clean up the forums of bad posting. That being said we can't be everywhere at once and sometimes bad posters get by. My suggestion would be to help us and report bad posting.

Now, keep in mind there is a difference between bad posting and someone complaining about a bad mechanic, a nerf or some other negative thing they came across with the game. For example. A post talking about how "WOW is Boring QQ Lets all go play Rift!!!!@!!11" will get locked. A thread saying "Reso Shaman's need a healing CD here's why... Discuss?" is encouraged.

The squeaky wheel phenomenon is unavoidable: it will always seem like there are more people discontent than content because those that are unhappy with the game take to any medium they can to make as many people as possible aware of their unhappiness. Meanwhile, those that are happy with the game are playing it instead of whining on the forums that their FotM class has been nerfed.

    Plus too, I'll add...

I've read a lot of negativity in the past. It hasn't really affected me to be honest. I can see where some people are coming from in some cases, but in most instances they just seem to be whining. I especially love the people who say they haven't played in 5 months come and post about how bad the game is. You must have a pretty boring life if you go and post on a fansite about a game you don't play and say its bad.

I've played for years, I have my ups and downs with the game. Sometimes i'm really super into it. Other times I'm just coming on to raid. I haven't taken much time off and I always enjoy myself when I do play unless I'm sick or really tired. All well.

@Dalroth - I said in my original post that I didn't expect everyone to agree or not complain...just get rid of the 10,000 "wow is boring now" posts.

@Fuzzie - I think it just bothers me more because I have moved where I read online from sites that are negative and complaining to ones that are more positive and interesting. mmo-champion is pretty much the play to be to talk about WoW...just too many people who post are the immature/negative posts. I'll try to not let it get to me and start posting more myself and hopefully find more like-minded people and just ignore the rest.

Kotomie, I agree with you COMPLETELY. It's really saddening when the "I'm quitting and hate everything about Cataclysm" threads get 10+ pages and my thread about "What is your favorite thing about WoW?" got 3 pages.

Things going wrong is a lot more interesting than things going right. This is quite plain, what is more interesting to talk about, a hurricane or a sunny day? The "norm" is accepted, expected even.

Hmm... Me thinks this should be in Suggestions and Feedback.. Going to move it there.

If the negative posts are even slightly interesting, it would be fine. But they aren't. They are childish people with unrealistic expectations. I'll repeat that I am not saying I want all posts to be about how Blizzard is the best thing ever...I just want actual engaging discussion in one forum. Not all of them...just one.

What is even better is those who claim to quit still come here and rage about it. They make me chuckle.

Truely, it is annoying to see the forum jammed with "wow sucks", "blizz conspiracy!" threads. I want to see some good threads, some lore threads, run up the great things you love about wow for a change :-\ saddly its apparently more fun to argue about all blizzards downfalls

isn't the OP's post just a giant QQ about people posting QQ's?

Being productive is different than QQ'ing.

Well, compared to all the other Mods, I disagree.
Personally, I think a discussion is a discussion. Regardless of it being about what people personally like about the game or dislike.

Of course it would be nice to see a thread dedicated to the good sides of Cataclysm, but the chances of having more of those around instead of the dislike threads are lower than the chance of Boubouille ever actually running naked through Paris while having a Unicorn horn taped on his/her head shouting "I'm a little Piggy, here's my snout" while being filmed from 2 different Point of Views.

This is mostly because people generally post when they have something to complain. People who are perfectly happy with the game and love playing it, rather actually play it instead of visiting the forum.
Of course there are people who love the game, they just feel less of a need to post about it.

    Its quite simple.
Some class receives "nerfs". The following happens:
Player X does not agree with it: He/she makes a thread about it (Damn you Mages).
Player Y does agree and enjoys the rest of the day in-game knowing that his or her arc-enemy has been pounded into the ground (Screw you Druids).

Although both players are rather "Angry" at a specific class (Totally not based on my personal feelings, I swear), Person Y will just not feel the need to make a Thread about it because he or she thinks it is fine the way it is.

Person X however, will make a thread to find some people who agree with it and start a silent resistance v/s Blizzard about the changes. Kinda like V for Vendetta, but without the Explosions or the guy who kills 10 policeman while having 38 bullet wounds all in fatal places and blowing up the government building nonetheless. Cause making a Forum Thread is much more awesome, and gives us Mods something to do.

TL;DR: The forums are meant for people to discuss on, regardless of it being about the game being "Bad" or "Good".

Bahumut5 is the man. With the right idea. People decide what threads to make or what to post in.. people who have fun with something don't go on the forums for it and say "IM HAVING SO MUCH FUN!" or not often atleast.

And as long as they aren't trolling or making threads that are too similar they're not breaking the rules.

Well, the idea of a subforum called something like "Why you like WoW" or something like that might be a good idea.
It is hard to get new people to try this game out when all they read is WOWSUX and related threads. This game has a lot to offer and I would love for the community to grow with quality players (you know, the type of players that go and read about a game before buying it and such)
