Going to the US of A for 3 months, any tips?

Me and two friends of mine are going to the USA in about a month, in what we think will be the trip of our lives.

We got most of the trip figured out, but we'll do some stuff on a whim. I've been in the US before, in 2000 when I was like 12 years. Without a shadow of doubt, the best country in the world, unless you're poor... Visited New Jersey, New York and several places and cities in California, had a great time.

Anyhow, on our travelling route we'll try to cover and visit as much as we can. We start off in Seattle, then probably fly to San Fran and travel down the coast to either LA or San Diego. Obviously we're stopping in Las Vegas, one of my friends really like playing poker and has saved up about 3k US dollars to "waste" on gambling. From there on and out we'll rent a car and drive towards the east coast.

I'd really like to see much of the southern states, because they aren't really the first place tourists go to when travelling to the states. It'll be interesting to go there I think, I don't know that much about how it really is there, although I'm more knowledgeable about America then the average norwegian.

Our final destination will be New York. (Greatest city in the world?)

We'll be staying mostly with relatives or folks that know our families somehow, which is great, and renting a car, food and other necessities are so cheap over there compared to Norway. (we have high salaries but 35-45% tax is normal, and cost of food etc is high)

I've got 2 definite goals for the trip: 1) Eat fresh Dunkin Donuts as often as possible (they are divine, dreamt of them for 11 years, and no I'm not fat)
    2) Have sex with an african-american girl, which I imagine in my head will be super hot

So, since most readers here are American, I wondered if you got any tips? What to see, what to do (what to avoid/watch out for). Happenings, festivals or such for example.
And hey, if anyone wants a visit from 3 good looking norwegian fellas, I'm sure we'll take you up on it. You are all harmless, right?

TL;DR America, 3 months, what do.

Guess it depends on where you're from.

If you're going to be passing through the midwest/mountain states (sounds like you might be), I'd take a stop at the Salt Flats. yeah, it's a whole lot of nothing. That's the point, though. Just don't go when it's windy, or you wont' be able to see with all the salt in your eyes.

It's actually pretty cool, though. You can step out into the salt flats, and see literally nothing for as far as you can see.

Ah yeah, think I've seen that on TV, that's the place where they race and stuff right? Thanks for the tip.

If you're going to the East Coast, I really suggest DC. Lots of American history there, and the Smithsonian Zoo is amazing. Also, all the Smithsonian Museums are free.

Myrtle Beach in South Carolina was fun when I went last summer. Virginia Beach is alright, but IMO not nearly as epic as Myrtle Beach.

Don't come to Richmond, VA. There's nothing here except crap.

If you plan on being anywhere around Florida, there is a space shuttle launch sometime in April.

Chicago may be the second city, but Its easily the US's prettiest. As long as you stay on the north side of town.

Don't go near the border. San Diego is nice, I have been living there for 5 years and I can't complain too much. People are too stuck-up here though.

+1. DC is amazing, and you can get lost in the various Smithsonian Museums for days. Second to the Louvre, I can't think of anywhere else I'd happily dedicated 3+ days of my life to exploring.

+1 to the shuttle launch... before they're gone!

This for sure, and chicago. Easily 2 of my favorite places over there. Also, Krispy Kreme is WAY better than dunkin donuts. Oh and keep in mind, it will be what late march early april. It will still be pretty cold in the northern parts, including NY, so make sure you bundle up.

After reading further on with your comments you wont be in NY till around June, it will be absolutley gorgeous there that time of year, shouldnt be too hot yet.

As long as you stay out of new jersey you should be ok.

When you go to new york eat all the food (pizza) you can, and if you end up going through kansas don't forget to stop for bbq.

its a huge ass country so driving should be loads of fun n there are reasons ppl dont usually go through the south "banjo sounds in the back" lol jk the way u got it sounds good and for the black chick not to cock block you or nothing but iv never known one to just go out looking for foreigners to slap the meat with but idk im not a chick so i can only wish u luck on that. n a word of advice try not to be too trusting of people always look at em with a degree distrust dont come off as distant or aloof just keep an eye on em. now i dont want to talk down to ppl of my own country but i sure as shit dont go out acting like everyone out there is my friend cuz their not.
