[Movies] How to Train Your Dragon

I loved it. That is all. Definitely as good as any Pixar movie and it really only had 1 cheesy spot that i was like 'eh, no way' (wont ruin it for those who didnt see it)

If you're bored, need a good movie to watch with a girl, or can justify watching it with your friends (if you're a girl this is easily justifiable then), I would say you'd have to be incredibly dumb to miss this movie. It was brilliant

I enjoyed it a lot too. The little things, the effort that the characters put into things, the spikey skirt, how natural character interaction felt. It all made it very easy to get into and care about things.

This was an awesome movie, along with RED one of my favorite movies last year. I saw it twice in theaters, and three times so far on DVD, absolutely adorably awesome movie

This was about a month ago.

I missed this movie in theaters, so I decided to get the DVD. Four days later, I had seen it about 9 times.

Yes, I loved it. Yes, I'm excited they're making a sequel. Yes, I thought it should have won Best Animated Feature over Toy Story 3.

Now, on a more constructive note, I found this movie near-flawless. Out of all aspects of it, I believe my favorite part was the emotion portrayed by every character. This includes the dragons; if you watch Toothless throughout, you can easily peg his personality and what he would say if he could speak. It really helped bring the movie to life and that is a very important part of any movie, the ability to pull the audience in with life-like interaction. Visually, it was a stunning movie, as expected of Dreamworks. The soundtrack was amazing as well, though my favorite song from it (That being Sticks and Stones by Jónsi) was saved for the credits. If I had to pick a flaw, I would say it was the lack of development on side characters, such as Astrid, who I would love to learn more about. As far as we know, she's just Hiccup's love interest and has a straight-to-the-point attitude. But I suppose that could be addressed by sequels.

The biggest thing I have noticed is that, despite being set in the time of the vikings, one of the main themes addressed throughout the movie is the concept of being an outsider and finding your place, which is easily present in today's society. If a bit of an easy concept to address, it was expressed very well by the movie. The decision halfway through production to tune the film away from its child book roots and make it enjoyable by a more mature audience was an excellent choice, one that I'm glad was made. The concept of outsidership is probably what helped connect the movie to a majority of the youth crowd that enjoyed it, most of whom don't have any idea of their place in the world yet. How it connected with those 21+ I don't know, most likely because I'm not 21+ yet. The movie also shows how thoughts about a particular person or group can change with time. The opening and closing lines of the movie start exactly the same, with the line "This is Berk.", but are near-opposites in reflection on the life of Hiccup's tribe.

As for my favorite scene, it's most likely either the Test Drive scene listed previously or the Forbidden Friendship scene.

One last thing: Not to spoil anything, but, in one of the last scenes, with Hiccup climbing out of bed, right as he and Toothless walk out the door, look at the lower part of the screen. Namely, Toothless' tail (Which he uncontrollably flies without), and Hiccup's feet. There's definitely some symbolism there, though I haven't quite pinned it down yet. Something about them all being the same, I'm assuming, but I'm not sure.

TL;DR: I loved the movie. I'm waiting for the sequel that is set for release in the Summer of 2013. If you have yet to see the original, DO IT NOW!

Tangled would've been a hell of a lot better without the ass pull ending. HtTYD, though? Awesome. Enjoyed every minute of it.

I saw this movie 3 times, and some members of my family saw it 4. I really liked it and the music, of course. I think the reason some people didn't like it was because it was supposed to be based off the book. The movie was almost completely different (i.e. Toothless was a small dragon, vikings and dragons were not at war). But I think, for a movie, it was very nice!

I admit, I smiled when I saw this thread.

I just want to see a 2nd part.

eh...I preferred the book, as a separate movie it was great, but it butchered the story completely, only things that stayed the same were character names and dragon names/types

Took my fiance to see it at the cinema, and we both loved it. Saw it a couple more times and pre-ordered it asap. When it wasn't delivered on release day (post was due the following day) she went to buy it anyway from town xD. We then had to watch it almost twice a day for the rest of the week lol.

The effort that went into the modelling and animation is crazy, absolute kudos, this is by far my favourite pixar film.

This movie has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Toothless looks extremely similar to my cat, Sweetheart.
I took her in June 2009, she gave birth to 4 kittens May 5th 2010, and because I left to go help a family member in another state, I wasn't there to see her give birth or watch her kittens flourish to toddler kitties.
My grandmother gave away 2 of the kittens 2 days before I returned home, and Sweetheart was last seen 8 hours before I returned home.
    I never saw her again.

I always remember my dear Sweetheart kitty whenever I see Toothless.

TLDR; I still miss my cat
    Infractions this, infractions that.
    There's my sig.

    fixt

I'm glad so many tohers liked it. I'm 23 and loved it, watching the forbidden friendship (as it's so-called) scene above made me have to bite my lip not to laugh at work, the fish was my favorite part when toothless sat there getting him to eat it

I'm 37 and loved it. We took our 7 year-old to see it in IMAX 3D and I'd say we loved it more than she did. We have it on Blu-ray and watched it 5 times already.
