most played online FPS these days?

Hi, well title says it all. What's the most popular FPS now? (Multiplayer)
Last time I played FPS it was Quake 3 and Counter Strike, it was quite a while ago as you can imagine.
Titles I've heard and seen others play - Battlefield, Call of Duty and Team Fortress.
Problem with CoD is there are a lot of CoD parts? Which is the best, with the most players online?

Black Ops probably, but its terrible. The best modern FPS right now is probably Battlefield Bad Company 2 on PC.

Of course this is an opinionated response (much like my own below).

I prefer Blops to BFBC2, though I do have a max level sniper in BF so I actually have played both for longer than just an initial opinion. I really don't think Blops is bad and neither do the mass amount of people that play it daily.

After Black Ops, it probably is Bad Company, and then Modern Warfare 2. Some people dislike Black Ops since its dedicated servers and nnot random putting up with people.

Give it a try at Call of Duty. Its got an amazing single player and Multiplayer is very cool aswell. Team Fortress is also very fun. ^_^
Bad Company 2 might not be that much fun. I tried it, its fun when it is REALLY big numbers, but there's about only two servers of it.

Unfortunately, it's Call of Duty: Black Ops most likely. Horrible horrible horrible multiplayer gameplay imo, such as all CoD games. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is much better.

CoD multi is cool yea.. if you want to play with a buncha 10 year old boys and single guys who rage if they're not at the top of the scoreboard. Your time and money is much better spent on BF: BC2, even though the campaign is horrid.

So what you're saying is, if the fanbase is shitty the game is also shitty? Good logic brah.

Counter Strike? I'd assume considering it beats the CoD genres in Lan events and sponsorship

if you want a competitive gameplay which needs lots of skill i would play counterstrike 1.6, CoD 2, quake live.

if you wanna faceroll 14 year old kids without any skill required play cod black ops or cs source

Dedicated Servers are servers that have slots, like for example up to 32 players and so.
The so called "Random putting up with people" as I described, would simply put about 16 players togheter, picked randomly, so you just had to pick the category, and not look for a server.

This, of course, got many hackers to get in some games. I'm guessing Treyarch (Black Ops Creators) did to stop hackers, get Dedicated Servers.

At least thats the way I see it

    And yes, there is.

On Black Ops, if you want to get a certain weapon, you need money you attain from kills and killstreaks and a certain level. For example, for a AK47 you need to be at about level 37 if I'm not mistaken. Then at the cap of the level, 50, you can prestige. Means you lose all the weapons you have at the moment, but you get a new symbol, and you get to level up again. You can prestige 15 times in Black Ops.

Back in Modern Warfare 2 you didn't have to pay for weapons too, you only needed the level. Only attachments had to be unlocked by challenges like killing x people with x attachment.

stick to the great memories of q3... every fps nowadays tends to be a massive spam of overpowered weapons , spamming godlike active abilities and have bad support and few maps...fps nowadays are trying to expand their playerbase through eye candy features and they are totally underestimating gameplay.

cod should probably have a big playerbase but nothin like oldschool fps communities.

    ps: i miss ut2k4

As others are saying, the most played is probably COD: Black Ops. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the best of course. COD these days has sort of a name-brand following. For example: COD: Modern Warfare2 was downright terrible, yet many people still bought and played it. (over 10 million) People frequently cheated, ignored objectives to nuke territory capture maps, had totally unbalanced weapons and perk combos, etc.

About Black Ops having dedicated servers: That was actually one of the biggest complaints about MW2 was that they DIDNT have dedicated servers. Players felt at the whim of hackers and had no control over the quality of their game experience.

BlackOps is more smaller scale. Bad Company is for more people on each side and more objective and teamwork based. MAG for PS3 is a bit older, but it's been reworked extensively over the past year and is also a great game for large-scale battles and using teamwork to win.

I personally still play a lot of Team Fortress2. It's kinda wacky in appearance, but takes teamwork to effectively win matches. And you can't go wrong with picking it up for only like $10-20 these days. They still make regular content updates of new items as well.

TF2 is a wonderful FPS. It has CONSTANT updates making it an always evolving beast of sorts, which in this case is a good thing. It is starting to feel more like an MMOFPS as of lately and I can sort of get a feel where they're going with it. I always bust out a few matches of TF2 now and then when I'm bored. It has a lot of awesome elements I like and is good fun.
