Still gives me chills whenever I listen to it.

Or pretty much anything from the entire game.

This Chrono Trigger theme makes me incredibly nostalgic.

I cannot believe anybody hasn't mentioned Metroid yet. Super Metroid and Metroid Prime(s) had amazing sound tracks. I could post endless links for them, but I think I'll just settle for a few.

A really old game that has my devotion music-wise is StarControl II. It's old, .midi quality but when combined with the picture, font, and dialogue of the aliens it gave you an amazing sense of what each race was about.

A proud race that has fallen shamefully into subjugation but which refuses to ever be fully cowed.

The main antagonists, the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za. I just love this theme for the power it projects, as a race following the Path of Now and Forever to enslave or imprison every other species it encounters. Although the best lines belong to their close kin the genocidal Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah: "We are the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah. Our nature, the fulfillment of our fate, requires your destruction."

Okay, I'll stop now. I'm just a big fan boy of StarControl II.

This music was the soundtrack to an entire summer of mine.

Off topic: Yes. Yes you are.

    On topic:

An obviously martial theme appropriate for game based on WWII. I still remember getting goosebumps when I heard this for the first time. Battlefield 1942 wasn't the first sandbox-style, multiplayer FPS with massive amounts of vehicles. It was just the best sandbox-style, multiplayer FPS with massive amounts of vehicles. So many late, late nights playing this over the network with friends during high school. Good times.

Hell March, while not exactly a theme, is as intrinsically a part of the Command and Conquer spin-off series "Red Alert" as the ever present Agent Tanya. This particular version was redone by First to Last, and is completely true to the original, so I don't feel bad about posting it instead of the original. The updated (read: less synthesized) instrumentation delivers the same awesome feeling of Soviet military power washing across Europe in a glorious socialist tidal wave of worker's liberation. And Mammoth Tanks.

    Mostly just Mammoth Tanks.

Ooooooooh. How did I miss this thread.

    Right.
    Let's start with Zelda.
Ocarina of time was the first one I played. My favourites from that:
Hyrule Field. First time I got out there I was stunned. The sun coming up, the flute playing, the beautiful wide open spaces. And then the music came on and I think I might have fainted. <3
Title Screen. I didn't stop to fully appreciate this the first time round. When I started up the game again the next morning I think I stopped to watch the intro. It's so soothing, so melodic. Beautiful.
Gerudo Valley. Eaaasily one of the best ever pieces of music Ever! How can you not like this. Everyone's favourite, always. Such great guitar.
Zora's Domain. Pretty area in game, and this is perfect chillout music. Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine kind of reminds me of this.
And because I could be linking music from this gem literally all day, I'll just post This one. Lots of songs from the game in one video.

Ocarina of Time is one of the best games ever in my (and many other people's) opinion. The music for me was a big part of that achievement. I played this when I was like 7 or so and the memories come flooding back easily when I hear the music. I'll refrain from posting any from Majora's Mask because it is similar and I never actually finished MM (To my undying shame) so OoT will suffice for now! Besides, MM was more scary (which is good) than pretty in terms of music.

Keeping up with Zelda, Windwaker is next!
Windwaker's music might even be better than Ocarina of Time's for me. It's stunning. I lost the disc years back and bought it again 2 weeks ago. Been playing it a lot recently.
Main theme. From grand, to soothing, to what I can only be described as a feeling of adventure. All from the music, it's so damn powerful. ... And that's just the main theme!
Intro theme. Starting the game to get greeted immediately by this whimsical piece and a great setting in terms of the story is so gripping. I Cannot begin to describe how amazed I was when I played this first as a child and how wonderful it was to come back to.
Outset Island and Dragon Roost are both superb and take place so early on in the game. Outset Island's horns make for a brilliant tone with the flute and violin sounding to me like adventurous, curious footsteps. Dragon Roost is so incredibly catchy and really suits the island. The guitar is happy to be played when you sail up to it. ^_^ Just like Gerudo Valley, many people I know keep coming back to listen to this. Every element of the song comes together so well to make it a masterpiece <3
The Great Ocean. I'll have this as the last one of this game before I get too carried away. Sailing around with the beaming sun lighting up the beautiful blue sea jumping at the crests of waves is endless fun.
All over Windwaker has fantastic music with the wind pipes, flutes and violin being so prominent. Sounds kind of Irish, adventurous, whimsical and just amazing. Love it.

To go for a different company than Nintendo for a bit I'll choose some World of Warcraft music. I've been playing it for such a long time now that Nostalgia is certainly a normal feeling.
Barrens music. Getting lost here as a level 13 night elf that tagged along to a Crossroads raid. (I had no idea what a raid or crossroads meant back then) but I'd be damned if I was going to miss it when I saw that many level 40+ characters on their impressive mounts! Aspect of the Cheetah and a kindly level 45 as a bodyguard and I was all set. Once the raid finished I had no idea how to get back to the Eastern Kingdoms so I just ran around there exploring for the next couple of days., running up the mountains by semi wall jumping and using cheetah to get up hills just above Crossroads. I kept using Eagle Eye to look around being so thrilled by the fact that I could see the Horde but they couldn't see me. With this music, which is gentle at times, and exciting at others playing in the background I really felt like I was all alone in a hostile yet Barren (duh) and massive area with such a huge amount of land to explore. Amazing. Nostalgia <3
Teldrassil. My first character was a Night Elf and that starting area was perfect. Beautiful hues of green and purple, giant trees, creatures for me to later tame. The music has become for me quintessentially Elven. I'd spend ages running along the roads pretending I was a sentinel. It's so soothing, but the violin and other strings remind me of a flowing river and that conjures up images of such a river running through a grand forest just like the ones in Wow.
Dun Morogh. I made a Dwarf very soon after my Night Elf and Human and have always enjoyed this music. It's great for sitting back and relaxing to.
Eversong. Perfect arrangement of instruments. I never really leveled a Horde to past 30 and that was a Blood Elf - But Listen to that cello - Listen to it!
I also love Elwynn Forest's music for similar reasons and the Original Login theme because it is one of the few things I would use the overused term Epic for. Incredible <3

Seeing as this is a stupidly long post I will stop with the Wow ones and move on.
I didn't play that many FPSs when I was younger but I loved Call of Duty, United Offensive. (The first CoD's expansion pack.) I've played this every year since I started it and have always been moved by Pegasus Bridge. Still my favourite game of the series with unsurpassed music. It's so sad, but also sounds magnificent.

    Now onto the GBA.
The Golden Sun theme. As with FPSs, I didn't really play many RPGs. I never was interested in games like Final Fantasy but when I went to America I brought along my Game boy Advance and saw Golden sun. It hadn't been released in England and one day my parents had mentioned that they were going to speak to some people about buying a holiday home or something. Which meant we would be put in this play room for hours. They had N64s set up with Banjo Tooie and Mario kart and Lego all around but as I had bought Golden Sun just earlier that day I couldn't put it down. The theme tune is indicative of the game in that it's grand and exciting ^_^

The Legend of Zelda games on the GBA go without saying. As do the Mario games. Mario games have a lot of fun tracks but my favourite are from Sunshine, with one from Galaxy.
Gusty Garden has been my favourite song from a Mario game since I heard it. I replayed the level over and over again just to hear it. Floaty, melodic, beautiful violin and a great tempo. I love watching that video of it too. Not just because Shigsy is there but because everyone in the room is keeping time by tapping their feet and it makes me smile. I imagine the guy in the black shirt and black and white cap is sitting there throughout with this big grin spread across his face. I swear he's loving being there.

Mario Sunshine I will go through a bit quicker. I think they sound good, and are fun to listen to. They just maybe aren't as... touching? As some of my other favourites.
Delfino Plaza. Nice French sound, to me it sounds like you're on holiday somewhere sunny. Maybe because that's the setting of the game...
Bianco Hills. Beautiful area to play in, especially with the graphics that were then (and I still think are now) impressive. Especially the water effects. Made you really want to go swimming. The music just reinforced that feeling. It's so cheerful =D

First game I ever played. I picked Samus, and have loved her ever since <3
So this has obvious nostalgic value for me. The song is fun, a bit crazy and has sound effects over it but it wouldn't be the same without <3
The Super Smash Bros and Metroid series' are the two I remain unbeatable at. I'm good at some games, alright at some, and admittedly bad at others. But Metroid and Super Smash Bros... no one can play them better <3

Sonic games. Known for some great rock tracks from the band Crush 40. Cheesy, but fantastic!
City Escape. I always have liked rock. It's my favourite genre of music. This may be pop/rock but the guitar, and certainly that bass is unbeatable. I played this as a demo in some shop in Lymington weeks before the release. I thought Sonic games were alright, but had a friend who is obsessed with Sonic like I'm obsessed with Metroid. Playing it before him has been something I have brought up nearly every time I have spoken to him since =P The introduction bass line playing just as you are falling through the air before sliding quickly down a hill in the City as the singing starts was timing I appreciated even then!
Live and Learn! Awesome guitar riffs and a passionate singer. Again, kind of cheesy but fantastic to listen to over and over. More so since I have known it since I was young and had such good memories of the game.

There are more from Sonic games but you get the idea. Some of the earlier ones like Emerald Hill Zone are also nice as long as you don't mind pure midi sounds!

Now on to one of the greatest RTSs ever made. Age of Mythology ^_^
Pretty much every track on this that plays during gameplay is fantastic and I used to spend hours on this, building and organising neat cities with walls and towers and stuff all day for years. The music was ingrained into my head so here are some of the ones I remember most fondly. Titles are odd but the sounds are great. 'Specially for background music.

In a Pile of it's own good. Breathtaking!
Slaysenflite Goes through so many stages on one track. With a nice beat lasting throughout.
Adult Swim. I was going to find my 3 favourites and post them but I can't decide. There's 10 tracks so these will do. I urge people to look up the others!
Also Age of Empires 2 had some great memories though I didn't play it as much. This one and This one are the ones I remember most fondly I think.

Since I have been writing this for too long I'll just go ahead and mention Lylat Wars,Golden eye and F-zero on the N64. Great gameplay and music.
Jedi Power Battles (>Watch the Intro!<) and Star Wars Demolition(>Watch the Intro!<) as well as what I remember of Tomb Raider had pretty good music too. But Star Wars music I get a nostalgia hit from mostly for the films.
Oh and Battlefront 2. It had some great music playing on the Mos Eisley level but I don't know the name =[

Pokemon Music. Pokemon Music. It will take too long to describe the tears of joy I get for this series, and there are so many astonishingly good tracks. I have played each generation of them since I was 7 so there are far too many to list. Since this is a nostalgia thread I will just link a couple of the first tunes, from the timeless Red and Blue. Route 4. Route 1. (Oh come on, how can this not scream "ADVENTURE AND DECADES OF CHERISHED MEMORIES AWAIT YOU.") Vermillion City. My favourite City.
I don't care if they're Midis. People who dismiss them because they aren't real instruments should be shot. Partly due to nostalgia I will say they are Classics that will be loved for all time, at least by those of us who played them when they were new.

Other games that are slightly less nostalgic but have decent music...
Halo 2, I played that with my Dad and brother a lot back in the day. And Halo ODST. The piano piece that plays gently as you are walking round the deserted City. Fits the mood very well but I have been unable to find it on Youtube =[

Phantasy Star Online on the Gamecube had some nice pieces. A Song for eternal story. The intro music set the mood nicely. Maye a bit too synthesized for my tastes but nice nonetheless. It's like a walking into a futuristic forest.

Timesplitters 2 pretty much for one track: Wild West. Another game me and my brother and sister and friends played a lot for many years. This is a classic. Perfect for a Wild West setting and catchy overall. The trumpet and drums that suddenly start up only to give way to guitar and choiric singing before they all to come together again soon after is a great blend after the slower intro. Exciting, catchy and fairly unique too! Really quite thrilling <3

Billy Hatcher. Very childish, but very fun music =D Japanese theme and English Theme. La la lala laa la laaa lala la, la la lala laa. As I said, very childish but oh so charming ^_^ Definitely not for everyone, but nostalgia helps mark it up for me!

Other more recent games that have fantastic music: Twilight Princess. Amazing as with all Zelda games and I already start to feel nostalgic when listening to them. Very quickly:
Lake Hylia. Easily one of the best of the Zelda series. Undeniably nice. Floaty, Pretty, relaxing, serene. A highly rated comment on that video says "I Love This Song It Feels Like Your Falling in Love with Someone in your dreams." I was about to think what a silly kind of thing to say but.. he or she is right. It's like paradise in musical form. Stunning. Stunning stunning stunning. I can see the crystal clear water, shining like a pool of diamonds under the sun, reflecting the bright blue sky and rippling gently in the breeze <3
Midna's Desperation. Beautiful sound, and emotionally charged, even more so for the point in the game when this is playing. It sounds worried as it should but in a beautiful way. I think, kind of urgent when you are playing the game (I thought she was definitely going to die) but listening back on it I can appreciate how pleasant it sounds.
Fishing area. As with Lake Hylia it's just perfectly relaxing. The piano in this is masterful even if it is relatively simple. I think I prefer Lake Hylia but this is lovely in its own right.

    But!
I have been saving the best for last. Although it might only be equal to the Zelda stuff rather than better.
    Still.
Metroid Music. My favourite game series ever has some of the best atmospheric music, probably the best atmospheric music of anything. Some of it has some slight techno elements and I usually can't stand techno but in these a little hint of it works well.
Seeing as someone else has already linked from Super Metroid I'll go for stuff from Prime, though each game has great melodies. Not only are these nostalgic, but very catchy and exceedingly well put together. They also suit perfectly the games they are set in. When Metroid Prime came out its graphics and attention to detail were easily the highest I had ever seen in a game, which was even more impressive for the fact that it was on the less powerful of the 3 current consoles. It was a perfect combination of detail and music for getting you immersed into the game which was all about exploration and tried to give you a sense that you were on your own in an alien world. It worked. Perfectly.

Tallon Overworld. The first place you come to, as your ship gracefully lands and you step out into this beautiful unfamiliar landscape the music starts playing. It sets you up perfectly for exploring, adventure and a bit of action. It's majestic at the start, and the background noise makes it seem like there is wildlife just on the other side of the doors and hills waiting to be discovered, willing you on. The choiric voice sing of the ancient chozo who used to live there and the heights their race achieved.

Into the Crashed Frigate. This is a seemingly deserted crashed ship that's submerged in water. Filled to the brim with character. You really get a sensation that you are exploring with the synthesized instrument's refrain, the main piano conjures an image of lost, forgotten hallways and the high piano notes in the background become the trickle of running water. You can definitely envision Samus peering curiously in every direction trying to understand what happened here and can just get lost - absorbed into the atmosphere. I love it so damn much ='>

Phendrana Drifts. This is the chilled, snow covered area of Tallon IV. Again the piano is what really impresses me the most of this track. It instantly conjures up images of gently falling snow swirling in the wind and frozen lakes with that ever present desire to simply explore this area that has opened up in front of you.

Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuuma simply outdid themselves. This is for me perfection in music. When linked to the brilliant game as it is they really did discover the perfect melodies. Flawless.

So there, a lot of the music I find really nostalgic. There will of course be games I miss out but this list is too long already I think. I sincerely doubt people will read most of this let alone listen to everything I linked. Still, I urge you all to do so! Some of it may definitely not be to some people's tastes, the early Pokemon music, and Billy Hatcher theme as examples. But in cases like any of the Zelda tracks and the Metroid Masterpieces I really, honestly hope people listen to them and can appreciate them. It would be devastating to me if people thought they were bad!

Metal Gear Solid music. From the original game. I still think that this is the best game ever made.

The 4th act in Metal Gear Solid 4 got me a little teary eyed. That was the ultimate nostalgia trip.
