New rig looking for honest feedback

Im building a new rig for a buddy of mine, he is an active military buds trainer and has asked me to build him a gaming rig while he is gone for the next few weeks im looking for honest feedback on the parts and compatibility

I know very well that this rig is overkill, i know its more then anything needed for any games out there but he has asked for the best he can get right now and not have to worry about upgrading

also have replacement fans for the case and still working on the water cool kits for the cpu and dual gpus

have a fan controller from xoxide.com as well as some sound damping and mild lighting

im looking for feedback on the parts, are there better parts for the money to get what he wants out of hits build
this is for pure gaming as he has another PC for work
again i know its overkill but constructive advise is welcome

I would probably say if he wants the best of the best, then the Thermalright Silver Arrow as his CPU Cooler. Or the H70.

the cpu cool is only temp until im done with the water cool loop, going to run 2 different loops 1 for the dual gpus and 1for the cpu but i havnt started working on those yet

RAM sweespot is still 3-4gb, anything more than that and performance gain/money ratio is gonna go to shit (although I'd go with 8gb myself since that's an actual increase over 4gb), there's a difference between "The best" and just "Wasting money".

And if you want a fast HDD I'd look into OCZ's PCI-E harddrives, I'd be using one myself if my mobo had support for it.

Why you don't just burn your money? or donate it for japan?

I newer saw such a potential waste of money.
You don't need this CPU until you can make use it, there are 2 generations of new cpus out.
You don't need this GPU until you can make use it, there are 2 generations of new gpus out.
You don't need 16GB of RAM, for Gaming 4GB are MORE THAN ENOUGH!

Something like this is more than enough to play every game for the next 3-4 years. The two Radeon 6990 alone need more power than this build complete. Fact is: The PC-requirements are the same since 2007, because the graphics are the same, because the developers are stuck on maxed-console-graphics. So until the next-gen consoles are released, no one needs a 2000$ PC...

    CPU: Intel Core i5-2400
    MB: Gigabyte GA-H67A-UD3H-B3
    RAM: 4GB Kingston 1333MHz CL9
    GPU: GTX 580
POWER: Antec TruePower New 650W (KM)
    HDD: Samsung F3 1000GB
    SSD Corsair Force 120GB

I'd be careful with buying a discrete soundcard unless he specifically asked for one, and has the audio equipment to support it. The UD7 mobo you picked out should have very nice onboard sound, and unless yuor friend uses ~$250+ headphones or a ~$2000 sound system he won't notice a difference with dedicated sound. If the sound card is needed, I'd recommend getting a different one. I'm no expert on the specifics (never used a sound card myself) but the "fatal1ty" series is generally all hype and no performance. There was a thread on here recently that discussed good sound cards around the $150-$200 range if you're still interested in getting one.

EDIT: I'm not sure what the guy above me is smoking, but what he posted will certainly not compete with what you've built if the plan is to game at 1080p*3. He seems to be angry that he can't afford it. I would agree on the overkill ram though, 8 gigs is more than enough, and you won't need a dedicated ram cooler like the turbulence 2.

its not just overkill its a total waste of money. For the same amount of money you could build 4 computers and stay up to day yearly.

it took more post then i thought but...

i already stated its overkill i know
its more then anything he "Needs" for gaming I know

this is what he wants to spend his money on

some people buy cars or motorcycles or other shit, he serves his country and this is what he wants to spend his money on is the best rig he can get

i did ask for constructive feedback

i can build a rig for 1k that will run anything

I'd just thought that i would mention that the head set is USB and a sound card won't affect that. But if your friend uses speakers as well disregard that.

nice catch ty i missed that, ill look into both a different sound card as more research is showing flaws with that 1 as well as a different headset =)

Are x2 6990 really needed? Even if running 3x monitors at 1080p I'm sure a single 6990 is more than enough... Those things are a beast.

That is all good if you do decide to get that headset you won't need a sound card at all because i'm pretty sure it is built into the headset

Budget the 2x 6990 into a single 6990, or a 580 and get better monitors instead.

im looking at either 3x 1ms response syncmasters 1920x1080 or possible 2560x1600 monitors however they are hard to find

Its somewhat of a gimmick if they're doing something like GTG or something. Just get yourself either a nice PLP setup or 2560x1600 setup.

Might as well get a 120hz monitor too, so you'll actually see a performance increase.
