That does use to happen every now and then. Atleast when i went to High School in Florida, maybe not as coordinated as in movies. But we all sang quite alot

i went to highschool both in america and in germany, while it is different for sure, it is hardly anything you would expect from what you can see on numerous tv shows or flicks. As elitistniceguy said, yes the basic idea might be right, but yes it is very exaggerated. I think colleges are better depicted in flicks though.

In our country at least (but I think it should be similiar in most of EU) it is soo different from those american movie schools which I imagine are at least a bit real.

1. We don't have any school sport league (basketball, football, soccer, hockey, whatever) which translates to having no sport teams. So no "jocks" getting all the girls etc. Not that athlethes don't get a lot of girls but they aren't like grouped up, sorted by sport or anything. Also no cheerleaders, obviously.
There sure are sport teams and amateur leagues (well even "pro" leagues) for kids/teens but they arent tied to schools at all.

2. We barely have any clubs in schools (as in math club, chess club, theatre something, GLEE!...). Not that these don't exist but they aren't tied to schools at all. They are elsewhere.

3. Barely any (if any at all) parties in big houses. Never with jug of beer and cups. Clubs are the only way to go here really.
I think this has a lot to do with the fact in Europe you can drink at worst since 18 (and have sex since 14-15), in some countries you can drink weak stuff (wine and beer etc.) at like 16. So you get into clubs regurarly since 14-15 if you want to and don't look like 10. However most people don't. But they can.
