Better team won.
As easy as it would be to pin it all on Luongo, it's really not all his fault. They played terribly in front of him and the offensive pressure that we have seen all season just wasn't there.
That's not to take away from Thomas because he played absolutely fantastic.
As far as the riots go those aren't hockey fans. People are quick to judge Canada as rabid moronic hockey fans for losing but that couldn't be further from the truth. Those rioters came prepared to do that win-lose and take advantage of the situation. This happens literally everywhere and the rest of the world isn't immune. L.A when the Lakers lose isn't a very friendly environment, nor is pretty much ANY of the retards that show up after their country loses at a soccer game. This isn't on the true fans, it's on morons that are looking for an opportunity to show their true colors.
As to the nationality thing, again who really cares? You show a sense of pride during the Olympics/World events and that's about it. Sure Canadians typically hop on bandwagons when a Canadian franchise makes it to the final but those people typically aren't "real" hockey fans. Most real hockey fans I know are perfectly fine with the better team winning in the event that 'their' team gets knocked out.
Boston is a heavily Canadian influenced team as an organization, even more so than the Vancouver franchise. On those grounds I could care less whether or not a Canadian franchise won the cup.
To say that Canada only produces 'grinders' is about as ignorant as someone saying that only good players come from Canada. We produce excellent goalies historically and nobody can dispute that some of the top producing lines in hockey are Canadian as well. And that isn't a front on other nations, as they have quality players as well.
The day one of the Sedin twins said that he GUARANTEED Vancouver would win the cup on a Radio Broadcast -- I knew they'd lose. You don't say shit like that during any series.

luongo is really the only player on the canucks i respect (of the main players at least). the sedins dive CONSTANTLY and i lost my respect for kesler when he tackled pekka rinne.
saying that, i think luongo isn't to blame, i actually think he should be commended he's the only reason the canucks won three games, the games he stepped up they won, and when he didn't no one else did.
either way, kudos to boston, unfortunate about the rioters, but eh...i'm from LA and it'd be kind of hypocritical to scold others for rioting.
Im going to be fair here, the rioters werent really even canucks fans, it was more of just people out looking for an excuse to make trouble, the riot was gonna happen win or lose and you all know it.
True dat. People were going to set shit on fire, loot, flip cars, etc. as long as they have some excuse to do it and essentially no consequences to face as they are part of the crowd. Riots are a lot like the internet. You are basically a face in the crowd, essentially immune to punishment for your crimes as you steal music (he says as he listens to his pirated copy of Weird Al's new cd), say deplorable things to other people, look at porn when you are too young, etc.
In the same vein (not a porn pun I swear) as the Canucks blog post I linked earlier, Puck Daddy put up their Boston tribute post written by Montreal bloggers earlier today: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl-wp7512
I was surprised at the lack of "routine hockey play" mentions. There were only five or six. I would have bet on a dozen.
Also, the KHL is apparently robbing its players of money lol. Apparently managers have been charging players up to 50% of their salaries to secure their roster spot. No one does hockey corruption like Russia.

The only true fans who will riot are Habs fans when it comes to hockey, they are so die hard and have a huge history. I am surprised they took losing to Boston better then they did though. It's pretty tough losing in the post season I am sure, it's been a while since I have had to feel that disappointed since the Leafs haven't made the playoffs since prior to the lockout, and in more then a few seasons since 1967 has the team made themselves Cup contenders, twice in the 90's when we lost to Vancouver who were the better team in that series, as well as the LA Kings on a fucked up call by Kerry Fraiser, who will never be let down for it either. And Boston vs Montreal was an Original 6 match up and it's rare these days to get those, what with most of the teams from that time in the East.

Well most Canadian players, as well as Americans, are the bigger guys these days, how many 6'5 240 pound guys do you see coming out of the SEL or KHL? A reasonable number of the power forwards and scoring touch types of players are going to come out of Europe. That is their style of game, they aren't physical players in the same way we are, not counting guys like Ovechkin and Chara of course. We do have a lot of top end forwards who can score coming out of this country, but it's slowed in recent years I think. People stopped talking about Tavares, he never matched what he did in the OHL, but then again his team sucks. Yet people talk about Stamkos who flew under the radar for a while and is not an offensive juggernaut.
"We're going to win Game 7. We're 3-3 and we won all three games at home, and we have the fourth game at home. So we have the seventh game at home, and we'll take that. We are confident."
That is what he said. The guarantee part was fictionalized to make it into a story by the media. Basically he said when asked is that they were going to win and said they were confident because they were playing at home. Not confident as in we can do this with one arm tied behind our back but confident as in they still felt confident in their ability after getting skunked in game 6 and were not doubting each other and especially Luongo.
Really, the guy who called out Thomas and stated he would have stopped that shot? Yet here we are, Boston scored 23 goals to Vancouver's 8. You respect Luongo even after his stupid comment? He got pulled in the 1st period of game 6 after allowing three goals. Luongo needs to learn to shut up and play, not speak crap.
And you, Sikkarra, you need to respect someone worth respecting.
Those are true fans? Boo and go after your own team much? If everything isn't wonderful they are the first ones to turn on their own team, players and owners, other fans, the city. Chase the best goalie to ever play out of town? Montreal fans are awful and take it too far. Vancouver Canuck fans were not event the ones rioting. There are a lot of dangerously lefty anarchists as well as drunks in that town that love to fight against the police and cause mischief and those people are not part of the Vancouver fan base.
This logic really drives me nuts. Just because they are bad human beings does not mean they are not hockey fans. Every single city sports city has unethical human beings that are fans of their primary sports team. Saying that "Montreal fans are awful" while saying "Awful Vancouver fans aren't fans" makes no sense.
First of all, I don't disagree with you. However, if you watch the video the way he says it is not as offensive as people want to make it look. He pretty much said "I could have made that one save because I don't play as aggressively as Thomas." Not really an insult IMO. [and I'm not a Vancouver fan at all.]

Series is over no need to jump on people and be brainwashed by the media. "an easy save for me, but if you're wandering out and aggressive like [Thomas] does, that's going to happen" is pretty much true. Luongo in general is better at going lateral and plays deeper so a goal like the one Lapiere scored on Thomas would not be as likely to be scored on Luongo. On the otherside the Marchand goal in game 6 that beat him near post would never have went in on Thomas. Eddie Olyck talked about his agressive play and maybe the Canucks were better off putting one along the ice since Thomas was coming out and standing eliminating practially the whole goal to shoot at. They are different styles and each have pros and cons.
Series is over Luongo hating resumes in October. The Canucks in general were represented in the US media at least really negatively but that is just because the media is lazy and would rather make up news then report actual news when there is not much. Luongo puts his foot in his mouth and the media loves it while if he didnt say anything and was like Thomas they would have blue balls and be pissed. Just like in the NBA Finals the whole series was about Miami even after Dallas won. Its just a better story and easier to write something negative against the favorites.

I judge fans based on the fans that attend the games. When the rioting started the Arena in Vancouver was still packed with fans watching the Trophy presentation and the ceremonies. I don't know if its simply geographic or economical but the type of people that go to a Vancouver game are definitely nothing like East Coast teams. I would not take my children into many Northeastern US and Canadian Arenas but would have less of an issue having them attend Edmonton, Vancouver, Colorado, Minnesota, San Jose etc. I have never attended an NHL game in Vancouver but attended WHL games in BC and the people are really nice. Vancouver is really an expensive city if you ask me and I imagine most of the people in the seats are well educated and respectful fans based on what I have seen in the area.
He should never have said the bold part.

Different goalies have different styles. Talking shit about one goalie is just going to give him the fuel to destroy the competition next game, much like Thomas did.

The series is over but yet everyones still talking shit, because what if you hate the shit out of Bieksa and he ends up on ur team if Vancouver doesnt take him back? How will you feel then? The seasons over, Bruins won the cup, everyone settle down watch the entry draft on the 24th - 25th. Vancouver fans can act how they want, its their own reputation.
Marchand probably drunk at the parade today being hilariously goofy.
