huh... BUT HE HAD A CONCUSSION
I'm more surprised by the news that Gleason resigned with the Hurricanes... he was the 'next best option' after Suter was pretty much confirmed to be staying put (even though he said he won't resign until the season's over).
I don't buy that at all. How do literally dozens of doctors and specialists miss something that major and then one guy finds it over a year later saying it is fully healed? I don't doubt at all he had some sort of neck trauma, but a break? How do dozens of doctors looking at hundreds of x-rays, CT scans, etc. not see that over the course of a year?
The amount of commentary from people during the All-Star game yesterday is frankly disgusting. I hate all of you that paid into the NHLs money machine for that stupid game by increasing its ratings. Death to All-Star games in every sport. They are an insult to the game. No one hits, plays physical, plays defense, etc. You end up with 20+ goals in a game not featuring the Islanders or 100+ points in the NFL Touch Football Bowl.

I was listening to some dude on the radio while I was working out earlier (a surgeon of some kind from Toronto hospital) and he was saying that if the doctor's thought there was only a concussion, and Crosby hadn't reported much neck pain, any scans would have been of the head, and lacking any focus on where the neck/head meet.
Considering that Nikitin said he lost an edge and wasn't pushed, sure thing. Z's hand was on his back, yes, but in no way did that at all play into him falling down. Zetterberg never extended his arm in a pushing fashion.

You and every other team in the NHL.

He did complain of neck pain though is the issue unless that was all made up by the Pens so they didn't have to report a concussion, but that is a whole different issue I won't get into.
Ya I lied, totally getting into that issue. The current reporting standards for NHL injuries is a freaking joke. Did you know, a broken wrist, strained shoulder muscle, broken rib, punctured lung, and a jugular sliced by an errant skate are all the exact same injury? Crazy, I know. Teams use the UBI or LBI injury reporting system, now with added concussions!, to avoid properly reporting injuries to avoid having guys target their player's injuries. That is such a joke. Firstly, if the injury is so bad you are concerned for the health of the player they shouldn't be out there. Secondly, even if it is a minor injury they can play through, you think the opposition isn't going to instantly realize what the injury is? These are professional hockey players and coaches having been around the game for decades. They know when a guy isn't moving right and why. If a goalie is having trouble moving side to side and is really laboring to make positional moves, chances are he is having a groin issue. Maybe the players give him a little extra bump around the net when they are going for loose pucks. If a skater's stride is screwy with a leg thanks to the amount of weight he is putting on it hello knee or ankle injury and hello constant little stick tapes to it all night long. It isn't some big mystery for most injuries. The other team is going to know right away what is wrong with your guy, and probably what caused it if they watch tape, whether you report it as the actual injury or of a mystery UBI or LBI.

It makes me rage that in the midst of the All Star weekend the Crosby news had to break. Like seriously, do people have nothing to do other then continue to pat the boy on the head and tell him it's OK rather then focusing on the events that are actually going on involving active players? They really couldn't wait until today to break the story rather then have every asshole in the hockey media talking about him rather then the All Star festivities?
I just want it to stop in this thread. This discussion has done away and come back long enough. Everyone bitching about the media saying stuff about Crosby, but people here won't stop talking about the media saying it. And now I'm talking about people talking about the media saying it. Can you mods start infracting people just for mentioning Crosby in this thread until he does actually come back?
P.S. Congrats to Marcelos for learning to ignore it. =p
Also Team Alfredsson plays Team Chara tomorrow. I'll go with Team Chara again.

Crosby isn't the only good player in the NHL, and the All Star game this year was a prime example that the league has plenty of enough talent without Crosby and Ovechkin hogging the bloody limelight. Sure, the All Star game is a joke, but the whole weekend is about having fun and being a show off, out of all the guys named to the All Star weekend, two other deserving players would have missed out if Crosby and Ovechkin were there. I am sorry but there is more then enough talent circling the league with players who are recognized and talked about in other cities, even if they are on a different team. Stamkos and Tavares are becoming house hold names in the NHL, and there are tons of other elite level players, people just feel the need to stroke Crosby's proverbial wang and act like he is the next coming of Jesus.
People just need to shut about Sid the Cry Baby Kid for a while and focus on the active players and the game at hand, hockey doesn't revolve around one or two guys and it's high time the hockey media stops acting like the whole fucking world revolves around Crosby. I wonder how much longer before it's considered that his career is over and that he won't make a return ever? I pray for that day every single time his name is mentioned in the media.
I'd rather we be done with both topics and get back to the real season. Sorry but the All-Star break is a huge waste of time. Taking a whole week off for some silliness and a joke of a game shouldn't happen.
1. The whole "Fantasy Draft" can be done online. The players don't need to be there. It's pretty boring to watch. Just come out with the list and be done with it.
2. The Skills Competition/Game should be on the same day. Why is it split up? It's not as if the skills competition is taxing in any way. Hold it at 2:00pm and the game at 8:00 on the same day.
3. The game, boring. I get that it's just for fun, but a bunch of guys joking around and playing for fun doesn't strike me as a quality match. You don't really get to see what everyone is capable of because of the pussy rules they put in place. If they really have to do it, limit this whole thing to 3 days max.
Toews is in, Sharp is questionable.. this is good for the Hawks.
Hmm, I don't agree with you, or Conscript. Here's why:
The NHL players play an 82 game season, 41 of those game they are in a different part of the nation. They don't 'work' normal hour, they are either traveling on their 'days off' or practicing. Hockey is an extremely physical sport. Top physical shape is required and most of the time players spend most of their days in the workout room.
I just don't understand why people spit all over the fact that players get a week off. To visit families, to sleep in for a couple of days, to do anything really... I understand the game sucks. But it gives player a chance to relax and play with some different people in a casual game..
I don't know call me crazy but I enjoyed the allstar game. I enjoyed seeing these players just being themselves and having fun on the ice. Yes its an ego stroke, but who cares?
My mind is wandering today due to RL issues, I don't think I got enough of my point across, but fuck it. That's all you get.
TL;DR: I enjoyed the allstar game.
(Come at me BROs) <---/sarcasm

So out of Idle Curiosity what player on your favorite team has impressed everyone the most this year?
on Detroit it has to be Ian White, he has come up big and impressed me a lot with his play and his potential. Val Fil is 2nd and Howie is 3rd for impressions made this year.
