Different markets have different expectations, the Predators were competitive in a very very tough division. It took them awhile to stop being first-round speedbumps but things were going well for them given the nature of their market. The last couple years they've regressed a bit and so moves are finally happening for what was the most stable organization around. I think they really prided themselves on stability but back to back non-playoff seasons are finally stirring things up so maybe Poile will be the next to go if things don't trend up next season.

It just depends on what happens with Poile, its really hard to tell because we have an ownership group rather than a single owner so its a lot harder to read. Most fans assume that if nothing really happens this season then he is probably gone, although they may give him one more if everything looks better. Biggest issue for us now is the loss of Mitch Korn, dude could turn me into a decent goalie in the NHL.

As far as Spezza goes, unless its a sign and trade kind of thing I think Ottawa will be waiting for a very long time looking for what they want. People are willing to give up a #1 if they think he puts them over the top, or a couple of prospects and a draft pick in the same position. Unless that roster player is some fourth line grinder, I don't think he brings that ( especially with his injury history).

@Zeoni - I expect most UFAs would do the same. It's shitty, but the Leafs are in a weird spot with him. He obviously wants as much $ as he can get, and is probably worth like 4M a year based on past seasons... but he's coming off a scary injury (just cuz Karlsson did so well after the same thing doesn't mean shit)... I'd ideally like to give him 2 years at 4M per, not the 6-7 years he probably wants (at 4-5.5M too, I'm guessing).
