I gotta put myself in the Samus Aran boat.
The only thing I don't like is the direction they're taking the franchise with more active story telling. I mean I understand the limitations of, "Land on planet, kill everything you can reach until there's nothing left" design but what I thought was great about the Metroid series was how they accomplished so much with so few words. Usually an opening paragraph, a few characters saying things (such as U-Mos in MP2), and optional scannable content in Prime. But the protagonist herself was silent, and they conveyed much of what she felt so well through music and body language. I still cherish demolishing Mother Brain after she kills your little (big) Metroid. The body language expressed in the Metroid Prime series is superb, from the "aww hell" reaction to Thardus to the "bring it on" gesture you give Dark Samus the first time you meet her (skip to about 1:00). The extensive, character-driven story of Other M felt out of place to me (even Prime 3 was headed that way, but Samus was still silent).
