haha, blizzard called the FBI. They'd rather call the fbi over kids selling gold than bots, super duper!

Bots are good for Blizzard, they pay a subs. And a gold seller is basically a bot,unless he just buys and sells it, but basically "all" have their own bots ; )

So there must be something bigger than it looks, or else Blizzard wouldn't take their own subs out.

To be fair the terrorism thing seems like a journalists embellishment. Since they were looking for things relating to a Chinese company and an Automobile organization it sounds exactly like what the FBI investigates. Money laundering and fraud. Since they were also looking for credit cards and online payment accounts it would be logical to assume that someone stole accounts/money from the auto association and used it to buy gold.

I think the key part of the story was the part about "trying to set up fraudulent bank accounts".

No poor, innocent college students are being persecuted for playing WoW here. The gold farming/buying/selling isn't the reason the FBI showed up, the allegations of bank fraud - which is a very serious crime and EXACTLY what the FBI deals with - are why the FBI showed up.
