Thread: CPU Bottleneck

    CPU Bottleneck

I am looking at getting a Lian Li PC-V354A with an MSI H67 motherboard. Slapping an i5 2500 in it along with a GTX 570.

Will the CPU limit the system or will it manage the 570 just fine?

You're not really going to get anything faster than that CPU right now, so i'd really not worry about it anyways.

I am running a I7 2600k @ 6.2 when playing Rift, with a Geforce GTX 560Ti and it is just fine.

CPU and GPU should work just fine together ...

It is a 2500 not a 2500K. There are quite a few CPUs that are better.

And honestly, I would spend the extra what? like 150$ or whatever it is, and get the i7 2600k. You wont replace that for a while, Intel has even said that it out performs the I7 980x

Why would you want to get an i7 2600k unless you are really taking advantage of the Hyper-threading? Is the processing boost with the clock speed that much faster than the i5 2500k? Overclocking? What?

No, much of it actually is lost because of added Kernel overhead.

I played Rift with everything on Max on a Intel i7 980X @4.4 and a I7 2600k @6.2 and its like night and day difference. I can see across the zone I am in to about the middle of the next zone with the 2600k. 980x would only draw up to about the edge of the zone. And it runs cooler then the 980x with an Asetek liquid cooling on it.

If you ever might have a use for the HT, sure the 2600K is good, you can always just leave it off and turn it on in the cases you need it. Otherwise the 2500K is perfectly fine.

Hyper threading is only good for applications that I dont use.

Ok everyone... This is an H67 motherboard. Meaning that there will be no overclocking. Stop posting about K models please.

So please do tell, what you're doing to achieve 6.2. Because the multiplier limit, last I checked was 57, meaning you would need to bump the Bclk all the way up to 108 to achieve that. And, again, last I checked Sandy Bridge chipsets do not like going beyond 100Mhz on the Bclk.

Not calling you a liar, but you know, the claimer supplies the proof.

Also, the person you replied to was talking about Hyper Threading, which means nothing to games, actually hurts the performance of some.

The higher clocked quad core better beat a slower 6 on a task that only uses four. I would like to see 990X V 2600K on high mem usage tasks.

BTW ispano, you interested in the Xigmatek Elysium for SR2 builds like yours?

I have a Danger Den LDR 29 Double Wide. This: http://www.dangerden.com/store/black...-tower-29.html but twice as wide.
Even with the Xig, I'd have to put some of the radiators outside the case. With mine, I don't.

Even if they were at the same speed, as long as it doesn't use more than 4 cores, the Sandy Bridge Chip will still beat it.

    That thing is massive!
    (Thats not what she said)

SB is designed better after all. LGA 2011 should be pretty boss with a 22nm process.

Do you have any shots of your current rig and setup? I'd love to see it.

Your running an i7 2600k @ 6.2? Congrats you have one of the fastest overclocks in the world right now!
Either that or your trolling like your CPU-Z suggests.
