Which is better? I think it all depend on the fight really and if you are doing everything right. Mastery is going to be better than haste.

If you aren't the greatest demo player that know how to count CD, and sometimes forget to put a spell(rotation) on boss, I recommend haste over Mastery. The reason behind this is that at least your DPS won't suffer as much as going meta and forget to use your mastery to the fullest. I know I been in that situation where my rotation is mess up and the DPS just keep going down.

I would say that haste to certain point, then mastery, unless you are believed to be a good demo and doing everything right, then you can go mastery as high as you want.

Plus haste is good for all 3 lock spec. I am sure most of people have two spec to work with.
Mastery also increases damage done by pets at all times not just during meta.... too many people keep saying this

Yes, Paragon players are sooo low...

but yes, lot of other classes (Hunters, SP, Moonkin especially) can outDPS Demo lock easly, but when someone master his spec (like Jubeto) and can master every single aspect of fight, he can top. In demo it can by fight from fight, when you have luck on procs, you can sometime do one more Meta than normaly, and you will jump in DPS chart.

Again this summary has been valid since end-ToC / ICC:

A Demonology Warlock with Demonic Pact should out RDPS an Affliction or Destruction Warlock without Demonic Pact.
But that is not only about damage, Ele shaman bring haste buff, variability of totems (melee/hunter haste, slow totem, healing totem, ...). He have 6s kick, that is BIG difference when somewhere kicking 1 or 2 people

now it works btw that is random logs from theyr big raids, where they clear whole content in one run, you can look on single combats and most of them can pul Jubeto top damage, some logs is before 4.1, that mean lower Demonology damage than now (Felhunter is stronger than Succubus, Doomguard have better single damage than Infernal, better mana regeneration in Felguard combats).

Everything which can be covered by better classes and specifications.

Demo is fine/awesome. You are more valuable to your raid in Demo, for the buff, than in the other specs, in the absence of another demo lock or ele sham, even when doing more personal damage in one of the other specs.

I laugh a bit when people revert to the demo is "only" for aoe fights attitude. It does pretty darn well in single target fights also. Yes, bane of havoc and soul-swapping and maintaining 2 SE stacks is good, but timing meta with temporary buffs is pretty lulzy too. Now, smart usage of the doomguard, due to it being inherently stronger in demo spec and apparently scaling ridiculously well with mastery which demo prefers, also severly lessens the gap between the specs, from what I have seen in-game. The only fight i would go a different spec in would be Cho'gall, and only if our hunter didnt show up, for better stuns and slime control with shadowfury. I don't see a big reason to not be demo otherwise, demonic pact is worth more to the raid than a slight personal dps upgrade.

Demo can be good on chogall although not having sfury is a real pain. Only real reason I am saying it is good still is because it only takes 1 felstorm to kill all of the slimes :P
