    Building a new computer

    Hi,

    I'm not very versed in the art of computer building so I figured I'd ask here for help! My budget is around 1200 dollars. Can't post links btw, so they won't be clickable.

    I found http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.639053 today and figured it was a pretty sweet deal. It comes with a case, motherboard, power supply, processor, 8 gigs of ram, hard drive, and CD/DVD burner. Besides what's already included in that package, what else do I need?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106150

    I figured I'd need a graphics card, more RAM, and this fan. Do I need anything else? And is this a good value? My shopping cart total is just under 900 dollars at the moment.

    Alternatively I think CyberPowerPC offers fairly competitive prices. Perhaps that's the way to go since I have no computer building experience?

    Best regards

    Edit-
    From CyberPowerPC, I can get the following specs:

    * CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-2500K 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155 (All Venom OC Certified)
    * HDD: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Hard Drive)
    * MEMORY: 16GB (4GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Module [+199] (Corsair or Major Brand)
    * MOTHERBOARD: [CrossFireX] Asus P8P67-M Intel P67 Chipset DDR3 mATX Mainboard w/ UEFI, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, 2x SATA-III RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe, 1 PCIe x1 & 1 PCI [B3 Stepping] [+0]
    * SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
    * VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB 16X PCIe Video Card [+28] (EVGA Powered by NVIDIA [+5])

    It'll cost about 1100.

    I'd get a better case, the lowest price name-brand drive you can find, and go down to 6gb ram. I'd recommend a 560 over a 550. Also, unless you're planning on overclocking your cpu, the stock heatsink is fine.

    edit: I'm not terribly fond of rosewill psus either, I've had bad experiences with all of their psus that I have owned.

    Thanks for the reply!

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148697 comes with that package. Is this hard drive not compatible or something?

    Also how hard is it to actually assemble it? I don't want to mess it up and for that, perhaps paying the ~150 dollar premium would be worth it.

    The hardest part to assembling a computer imo is seating the mobo correctly, which has been made easier over the years but still can get screwed up easily, and connecting the power and reset led's and such. But yeah If you can follow directions in the manuals its very easy. Just make sure you are grounded properly before.

    Yeah and don't pet your cat or go rubbing your feet around on the carpet before you touch it

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371021 is unavailable now I guess.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371015 Is that a suitable replacement?

    Alright, thanks everyone for the help! Pretty much made up my mind now. I have just a few more questions.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185

    Since that's a "bare drive" do I need any additional cables or anything?

    Also, I probably won't be playing any of the latest games or anything, so would it be a good idea to buy a cheaper graphics card and also a SSD drive?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130610 was recommended over http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130625 but the second card is definitely more than good enough. What does SuperClocked even mean?

    Also does overclocking lower the lifespan of a computer?

    Thanks everyone for your help, it was much appreciated!

    Yeah bare drive means no cables. But most motherboards come with a few, at least all the boards i've ever bought do. The images for that board, assuming they give you all the accessories shows it has at least two. I'm actually overflowing with SATA cables lately. The system in my Sig came with 6 black ones, but they were too short, so I had to buy 6 more.

    How many of those cables are generally needed?

    One per drive. Both hard drive, ssd and optical drives, 1 each.
