Being frozen slows down, well.. everything, so that makes perfect sense (albeit it doesn't sound credible)

BUT! This is a thread for comparing amount of time people can hold their breaths, not discussions about experimental surgery methods and how the body takes up oxygen while frozen.

Not frozen as in ice frozen, frozen in body terms, below 15C or so. They did it on a baby who was born without a heart beat, they cooled it down and were able to do surgery and resuscitate the baby. They did more studies after this and realized that the link with brain cell loss of oxygen and cell death wasn't as quick as they once thought.

Its really interesting stuff - I'm trying to find the page about it, but it was quite some time ago.

    >>Most people can hold their breathe underwater longer because it's a mental reasoning<< Least that's what I've been trained.

I just kept asking myself why I wanted to breathe and trying to ignore the discomfort of not breathing

    ---------- Post added 2011-05-09 at 09:42 PM ----------

Oddly underwater 30 secs is the max. I think it's cos I feel scared knowing I CAN'T breathe and I come bk up

I wouldn't do that if I were you. The brain cells of a non-professional start dying after 4 minutes without oxygen.
    Hey ! It's Internet ! Everyone lie !

My record is 1:25. Then I stopped because I were afraid to suddenly faint.
Making your GIF Avatar to 20kb is hard. Especially when the original is 504kb

The main problem with freezing a living organism is actually heating it up and reviving it. Also, how do you perform surgery on a block of ice?
Again, it wasn't frozen as in below 0C. I'm not going to go into this further and derail any further - If you are interested search for it, I am sure there is a lot of info on it as it was a pretty big thing when it was in the papers etc.

Sorry OP. Please don't reply to any of my posts again, no more derailment!
