[TV] How can people watch T.V. anymore? Its not fun to watch anymore.

Television, basically a box that creates a moving picture, but for the most part, you actually want to watch it. Right? I sure as hell don't!

How can people watch TV anymore? First off, you have to pay some damn cable company an ever increasing amount of money per month just to watch the damn thing, and even more if you want "premium channels", and will also probably get locked in by a contract, and not get told so until after you try to cancel.

After that, the same company that you are paying a ever increasing amount of money to in order to receive their services has bloated times for commercials so much that you are literally watching more commercials than you are watching shows. Then they will find the most annoying people in existence and place them in those commercials to torment you (I.E. That Damn Progressive Commercial chick that needs to die).

And after that, there is a ever decreasing amount of great shows (and they seem to get canceled before they end also), and a ever increasing amount of badly written "Reality Shows", and idiotic Animated Shows that seems to spit out spin offs of the exact same show.

I say again, how can people watch TV anymore? It is not entertaining anymore. That's the point of TV right? Entertainment?

I agree. Anything I actually find worth watching (Not a whole lot, mostly HBO), I just download. TV is a money hole that isn't worth it anymore with the internet age.

I never really watched TV growing up, I was too busy playing my n64 or Dreamcast.

It's funny how all my friends can carry on conversations about television shows and I just can't relate at all.
ill probably be infracted for this post

The same reason people go to the cinema, the same reason people go to see football games, the same reason people go to the the theater. You can easily watch the things you watch there in a more comfortable, more economic way, but it just feels different.

I think TV is actually really great right now. Everything isn't for everyone, but there's such a wide variety of shows out there that you can just find what you like and watch that.

Truth. TV is great right now and no, you don't have pay anything to watch shows on your own time. Free entertainment is free entertainment.

I pretty much just wait for tv shows to be on netflix. In extreme cases of I WANT IT NOW I'll download stuff, like TNG (As soon as I have a stable income I'm buying a boxed set!) and such. I mostly hook up my laptop to my parents tv when I can and stream starcraft on the 46" tv, which is aaaaamazing.

My problem is that due to less people watching tv, cable companies are raising internet costs.

And adding usage based billing to my internet bill.

I havnt watched tv / owned a tv in around 4 years now

Im a massive tv show fan but the idea of watching somthing with commercials in between iritates me so i download everything i want to watch, even then i cant sit through anything need to have a game on my main screen with the show on another for the most part.

Same goes for the cinema aint gone to one in over 10 years never saw the point when i can watch it at home and smoke and eat non overpriced food

i used to watch alot of TV, but then alot of american shows put 'some scenes were faked for entertainment' before each show, so i lost interest.

You don't have to pay for premium TV if you don't want to. TV has always been broadcasted over radio waves absolutely free for anyone with a TV and antenna to receive the signal. The most popular channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX) are all freely broadcasted.

Get a DVR if you don't like commercials.

There's also plenty of TV shows online for free (legally) from premium channels/service. For instance, the daily show and cobert report are both free online.

I barely watch TV anyway. I have cable just because of HBO and sport events.

I moved from america to australia a few years back and have pretty much don't watch TV anymore. The few decent shows there are always get put on "primetime" and for every 2 minutes of show you get a minute of ad's. This is free TV mind you so I understand that they need to cover costs but I had pay TV when I was in america and they still had ad's. Many show's now also double dip in terms of ad's so you get your network ads then the show-endorsed ad's and as of lately they've started throwing additional ad's overlayed ONTO the show you're watching (Thanks youtube for that brilliant idea)

So TLDR TV is good. Ad's are bad. Ad's are taking over TV thus TV is bad.
