Seriously Rift?

Ok, so I started downloading RIFT. THought I'd check it out.

Started downloading, so I thought I'd check out the classes and stuff like that.
Then I start reading.

It's like the copy-pasted basic WoW and added some crap.
The launcher is the exact same thing, just diffrent colours and sizes.
Uncommon, rare and epic loot, same damn colours.
Th equipment are the same, except the plenar focus thingy.
LFG tool? Come on..

Im gonna keep reading now, hopefully the plain, outright copying stops soon.

Im not crying over it, just pissed that they took most of WoWs systems and stuff and made it theirs.
Im gonna play it ofc, and see what its like. But still.. not a great kick off.

Btw, Im not replacing WoW. Just wanna check it out. And I dont wanna play Guild Wars 2.

Yeah, WoW's classes are revolutionary and not at all similar to MMO's that came before WoW. (This is sarcasm btw.)

Uncommon, rare, epic, legendary was used in Everquest.
LFG tool was implemented in Everquest 2 a year or two before WoW got it.

Im not crying over it, just pissed that they took most of WoWs systems and stuff and made it theirs.

Rift is WoW 0.5, the story, the class ideas. It all sounds like bad posts on MMO-Champion made up by the very people that tends to be flamed here for bad class ideas etc.
I kept flaming a friend who plays RIFT for the fun of it but he almost lured me into trying the game so I took my time to read through some of the horrible lore and the classes and I really felt like wasting my time just reading that.

I don't get why people play Rift in the first place, it looks like pure crap to me, but each to their own I guess

Guild Wars 2 on the other hand looks promising, different and they have had quite some success with their first game, so might try that out at some point

I think it's hideous that everyone copied the concept of the first guy who ever designed a car to drive on four wheels. Seriously, stop copying already and be original! (Well there are those cars with three wheels lolz.. or were)

My point being, and what has been said already. Some good stuff just doesn't need changing, however there is also plenty of great stuff that can be improved to be even greater.

Reread what I wrote. The part where I wrote "for the fun of it", it came right after "flamed my friend". I know it was hard to spot out, as it came right after.

Still to say a game is "utterly worthless" without even having any experience with it is pretty ignorant in my opinion. Saying I haven't played it or not my cup of tea is fine, but to insult and belittle it is very wrong.

I know it came out quite hostile but to me it is very important that a game like this has good lore behind it and the idea of balance, reading through the information presented to me, I could conclude that Rift possessed neither and so I felt like, even if it might be mediocre to play I wouldn't want to use my time on it.

It's like looking at a movie review, the concept, the characters and the actors and then concluding it is shit. Even though it might be an OK movie, I wouldn't want to use time on it. I've got the same feeling about Rift.

So you started reading once you started downloading it, rather than before? This seems odd. Why let other people tell you what you should think rather than test it yourself. Of course some people will that that sentence way farther than it needs to be, and apply it to another context.

The launcher isn't exactly the same. The launcher may be square, sure. But Rifts launcher is also their login screen. I didn't agree with having to close the game and restarting it just because I went afk too long and got disconnected. I would have liked to see a login screen in the game rather than the launcher alone.

The loot colors are very similar, but why change something so irrelevant and meaningless that it has no impact on how well the game plays in the end. Omg the name of my sword is purple, gah what are they thinking????

I don't understand what you're saying about the loot being the same. Are you mad they have the same armor slots? Most games have that, Rift doesn't have capes though. Gear in Rift is gotten through pvp, along with a pvp talent tree, or by defeating rifts, which the game is about. What other means would you use to get gear? Downing dragons?

Your comment about them being a "wow copy" made me rage a little on the inside. Every time I see this, or another version, such as wow 2.0. I die a little on the inside because blizzard took a lot of Ideas from Everquest I believe it was. Blizzard wasn't the first to do a lot of the things that are in wow. Blizzard just did a really good job with it. At the time WoW was in development Blizzard was in it's prime. Putting out record breaking games with near flawless programming.

Edit - I forgot to address your LFG. I didn't see any LFG system when I played other than a level bracketed chat system. Such as 10-19, 20-29. As you level you change chat brackets.

The launcher may LOOK kind of similar, but it even functions different: requiring you to log into the launcher rather then the game, making it much more similar to STO, CO or LOTRO launcher.
That color scheme for equipment has been used by many many games, years before WoW.

The equipment isn't only the same in WoW and Rift, but in REAL LIFE AS WELL!! Hat, shoulder, pants, belt, shoes, staff, dagger, rings, shield, ect are all REAL LIFE clothing/equipment (just because everyday ppl dont wear shoulder pads TODAY, doesn't make them a wow orginal).

AND LFG??!!! COME ON... Any game that requires groups for some of its content should have a LFG. Or if not, then by your logic having to form groups by spamming chat channels would be copying the wow of old.
