    Is Rift worth it?

I am bored of wow and I'm looking for a new mmo.. so i thought about Rift. Is it any good? would you recommend it? Or maybe another mmo?

It just seems that every time a new mmo comes out, its popular in the beginning but after a while everyone goes back to wow because they find out it was pretty lame.

check the big Rift thread. It depends on what you are looking for, but it is pretty solid receiving lots of updates and depending on which server you are on will determine your experience

Try the seven day trial and yes i enjoy it. Though i have yet to do instances. Also another one i enjoyed was Aion but most people hat it for being "too grindy".

Its okay. Check out the free trial. Do not expect amazing. It is very very similar to what WoW was in vanilla in terms of questing and so forth. It's got alot going for it, the LFD and authentication are new features that came out since release. It seems that they are really pilling on the features in the attempt to get more and more wow people to stay.

My biggest gripe is that the quests are horrid. Boring, non-sensical, etc. But you can level through PVP or through rifts (which is just a grind fest honestly). BUt still given the buffs to the game, its possible that it will become good and a proper wow replacement. Oh my second biggest gripe, it takes itself too seriously. Gone are the goblin/gnome races, nothing is really 'cute' in the game, everything is life or death. Come on. We play a game to relax, not OMG MUST KILL 7 MOAR BOARS. But nearly all MMOs fall into this trap.

Taste differs. So check it out yourself or youtube it.
For me it wasn't bad but sadly not what I was looking for too.

Also: Most likely in before the lock.

I enjoyed it up to level 18 or so, but none of my friends played. Then I realized (thought I guess they're patching one in) that there was no dungeon finder and I had a bunch of quests for the first instance. It's safe to say WoW has made me lazy, and I didn't want to take the time to manually look for a group so I quit.

Rift was so so for me. I'd definitely play it if it was free, but I won't pay for it. It's not amazing to the point where I will. No MMO has yet.

lol they added a dungeon finder like 2 weeks ago single server. I predict it is going either cross battle group or full out cross server soon.

I played Rift for a while and I can tell you one thing that is definite.

Rift is a giant WoW clone in almost every sense of the word.

The gameplay is the same, the formula is the same, and the game generally feels the same. The only difference is the class system, graphical changes and small tweaks the system (The Rift Mechanic/Changing Over World), much like how WoW did in it's inception in comparison to other MMOs at that time.

If you're tired of WoW in terms of gameplay, which is what I was, Rift isn't for you, you will get bored really quick.

If you want a new world to explore, then Rift will keep your attention.

As people have said try the trial.

The game has a good pace and you are always givin the next area to go to start the next quests. The game is very linear. You go from one section of the map to the next. And have no real choose of what zone to go to next.

Rifts are fun. I don't know if they changed the difficulty, but soloing rifts if no one is around is time consuming and if its a major rift, at low levels you wont be able to do much.

Pvp is almost the same as wow. First one you get into is a hold the flag type. You gain control and the closer you stand to the center of the map with the (flag) the more points you get (+6 i think for center +1 for outer). Another thing is the longer some one holds it the more damage that player takes. This is damage the game inflicts on them not players. So if you hold it for long enough and have enough heals on you you'll go from 100% to dead even if ur not getting attacked.

Dungeons are nice to look at but nothing OMG about them. Your general kill mobs to boss, kill boss, kill mobs, kill boss, kill mobs then kill last boss type of set up.

Worth a try, the only thing I didnt like was warriors in pvp killing everything and the fact that the game was so linear. Again This may have changed with patches.

I enjoy Rift. Check out the trial. It's also on sale right now on Steam. $33.

Its a more old-school mmo. There are more class archetypes involved to make grouping and raiding more interesting. There's a greater emphasis on server community and putting forth effort to achieve your goals. You get many of the modern conveniences along with that style, though. Not too grindy, very customizable.
I'm having more fun in dungeons and raids than I had in WoW for at least 2 expansions.

I was completely defensive about WoW when everyone kept talking about Rift. And then, on Thursday, I tried the free trial, and...well, I'm buying Rift sometime this week.

What I like about it is this:
In some ways, it is similar to WoW. User interface is the same basically, questing is somewhat the same (but fun). But that isn't a bad thing, it means you can easily feel fimilar with it, and there are a million things that set it apart from WoW.

When you start off, you have more customization for your character. This is something I love, I enjoy making my toon reflect me. In WoW, it was very limited.

Starting area is pretty cool (I've only played Defiants mostly) but it's when you get into the next area that I completely love. That's when Rift shines. Tons of invasions, rifts....something is ALWAYS going on. I love major invasions, because it's when everyone gets together. There are full raid groups in lower level zones. Full. Raid. Groups...in basically the STARTER zone.

PVP - will feel comfortable to you if you've played WoW. But yet, it won't...I've only done one, Black Garden, and it's really addictive. Instead of capping a flag like in WSG, you are holding a claw for as long as you can while others try to kill you and the claw does damage to you, progressing the longer you hold it...and each team gets points for how long they can hold it for (up to 500). It did remind me of WSG at first, after playing it a few times it didn't. The first time I played it I was wondering where to cap the claw/flag...lol.

SOUL TREE! This has been super fun mixing and matching. I am loving my necromancer/warlock/cholormancer mage. I can heal and raise dead things and DoT the hell out of you . And you don't only get 3 zones, once you make it into the main city for your faction, you get quests for other souls also.

Professions, you can have 3, but First Aid, Fishing, and Cooking isn't there. Oh, and you can dye your armor, which I find really neat.

Lore isn't as good as WoW, but I expect it to expand.

I myself have been bored with WoW for...about a year or so...but I still played because I have this horrible gaming addiction :P.
With Rift, now I can play and actually have tons of fun. Like someone said previously, it DOES remind me alot of vanilla WoW. It's honestly a breath of fresh air, and the devs at Rift actually listen to the community it seems. There aren't as many 10 year old trolls either. Lots of fun, I love it.

Eh trust me, you will get sick of Rift and head back to WOW. They all do.

Rift isn't a step up from WoW, but it is a really good alternative, epsecially if you're like me and wanna try something different. Both games have their pros and cons, but you can't really say Rift has replaced WoW, since there's less things to do and it still hasn't matured yet, hence the constant battle for balance etc.

For reference, I've played WoW since vanilla, on 9/13 HMs and I'm currently loving the game since I feel like I need to take a break Also, I've played rift since the beta and currently 5/5 GSB, 4/4 GP and 3/5 RoS so all this is from experience.

Its the best MMO out there (excluding wow), simple as that. And no it goes away from what WoW is, people that tell its a wow clone never played past lvl 20.

I think Rift is good. Only reason I won't invest time in it is because i'm already too invested in Wow. Since Rift is very similar I don't really see any incentive to give up all my accomplishments (although few) and time spent in Wow. I have tried Rift and leveled to around 20ish, to be clear.

    I'm trying the trial

Is there any class similar to death knights? You know, melee class with spells (i like frost and shadow spells) and maybe heavy armor?

what class is easy to level up? what class is good in pvp? what class does good dps? tell me... tell me everything
