    Buying a laptop: 17", i7

This weekend a lightning strike (not alakirs) burned my computer, so I need a replacement.

I am thinking of getting the cheapest 17" with i7 quad, preferably not shared memory GPU. I'm a 3rd worlder so pricetag is essential.

    I could use suggestions.
    - where to buy (i live in Slovenia) and have a credit card if a price is more viable elsewhere in Europe
    - should I wait for something new that is coming out soon ? As there is no rush in buying it
    - I cannot spend more than 1k€
    - I do not need legitimate software
    - if there is a good alternative to i7, feel free to put it out here

    Thank you greatly,
    Skey

Don't i5's work just as well as i7's(for WoW purposes anyway)?
And are you planning on building it, and just want parts, or do you want it prebuilt?

    Hello,

It will also be a working computer aswell, but I know little for cpu/gpu characteristics in recent past so comments like yours are very useful.
Laptop will be bought and untouched hardware wise after.

Look for some European Sager/Clevo retailers. You don't have to go with a Sager, as those companies usually carry other brands as well.

Nice to see some folks from the EU here...

Probably as a baseline: DELL Austria is offering a Inspirion 17" laptop with an I7 2630M, a a 3 Gig GT555m, 4Gigs of RAM, 500 GB HDD for 949€. Should be a pretty solid gaming laptop.

    Or as a more budgetfriendly option: I7 2630M, 1 GB GT550M, 4Gigs of Ram 500 GB HDD for 749€.

    Hello again,
I have found a laptop that seems affordable and decent.
Choices consist of 2 options that cost the same, first with less RAM and HDD space, but 7200 HD rpm, 2nd with 5400. I don't need HDD space really, i got an external drive for that - what do you reckon, is the 2 GB of RAM worth the slower HDD rpm, which one slows the computer down more ?

I would have went for the one with higher HDD speed.

But thats because i think anything over 4GB of ram is useless to the majority of gamers.
Your greed, your foolishness has brought you to this end.
