    Khorium Ore....

Why the hell does this ore sell for like 40g-50g via AH on my server?! (Zul'jin US).... I just can't really figure it out. I mean yeah it's rare... but what the hell is it so useful for? I mean, the 40g-50g is me undercutting other people and then having it sell within hours. O.o

I request enlightenment, friends of mmo-champ.

You need quite a bit of it for the engineering roflcopter, and you can't effectively farm it since it pops very randomly, hence the high price.

Since it's not used to level up any proffession any more (you start using Northrend materials at 350) I really have no idea. Perhaps if there's a strong level 70 community on your server they use it to craft stuff, that's pretty much the only thing I can think of.

Ah, the khorium power core. Used for Jeeves and the engineering chopper of course.

Fact is that every ore that sits in the middle of your tradeskill progression and that is remotely rare - is worth a lot. A lot of people just don't want to run around looking for say Khorium when they've flown through outlands and have moved on to north rend without having managed to bring the tradeskills up in level as fast as you do now with new heirlooms and reduced exp requirements between 1-80. Would you run around looking for say Truesilver if you were skilling a new tradeskill?..I sure as hell wouldn't..id take the hit for a couple of hundred gold to get me past as ass stage.

And yes, titanium and khorium are also used for mounts, which further increases their value.

What Azimon says is mostly true. But Khorium is far more rare than other "rare" ores like Titanium, Truesilver, Gold, Silver and Pyrite. Khorium is the only ore that really takes time to farm and is the only one that can't be transmuted (although anything but Titanium will invoke an Alchemists daily transmute cooldown). Add to that people that hang on to rare stuff instead of selling it, which means even less of the stuff makes it to the AH.

Yeah I'd heard that Pyrite was much more common, guess this is more or less proof. I guess this coupled with the need for it for certain things and maybe in leveling BS, maybe that makes it worth it, especially since it can't be farmed very well. Thanks for the great replies folks!

40-50g, thats cheap, was about 150g per ore on my server when i lvld engirneering up in wrath, the reason it is so high is that its needed for the helicopter, and its really rare ore.

Also, you need loads of Khorium Ore for making the Jeeves, which is still very very usefull.

80g per stack is not driving up prices. There are a lot of people willing to pay 40 per ore. Just because it's so rare, needed for engineering, and really sucky to farm for.

sold some stack for 80g EACH, so basically i am saying i sold like 60 ores (3 stacks) for 80g each.

Oh the horror of the endless farming in Isle of Quel'danas for this...

I think Krazhuk is a bit confused here. We understand you sold some stacks for 80g each. You sold them for 240g for the 3 stacks. We get it.

What the point is is that you should have sold those pieces of ore individually for 2400g (total, also at 40g per piece.)

This is either a giant fail on your part, or you are doing the unmentionable T thing...

You need some khorium to make this component of Jeeves:

    engineers needed:
2 khorium power cores for jeeves
8 khorium power cores for swift mount
and 1 for toshley station teleport

before 4.1 1 khorium power core required 3 khorium bars instead of 1 as of now. so each engineer need 66 khorium ores. now that its only 22, prices should be dropping i hope.

ona sidenote its really rare, untransmutable and outland usually is not farmed. and as twinks only last for approx 2 zones for twinks before they head over to northrend, there's hardly any twink capable of mining and selling it. blizzard should maybe nerf the required skill down to 325 or give alchemists a transmute in addition to the khorium power core nerf.

Helicopter mount / Jeeves / It's almost impossible to farm due to it's scarcity.

You could fly around Netherstorm for hours and only find a couple nodes. Anything that rare will climb in price as nobody wants to go farm it and ultimately end up trying to buy it which in turn drives prices up as there is not enough supply to meet the demand.

Typically when someone says they sold a few stacks for 80g each, that means they sold the stack for a total of 80g. So do you mean each individual ore for 80g, or the entire stack?

The fact that its rare and is needed for the above items, which covers multiple target markets, that hardly anyone is actively farming this, and most people try to get out of outland as soon as possible for leveling, drives the price up.
