    New PC Build

I'll be building a new PC soon, but I was wondering what people's opinions were on my parts, as I haven't really followed lately with PC components. Are there any changes people would suggest, moreso in the SSD, MoBo, and PSU (Is 850 enough, if I plan to get another 580 at some point in the future to SLI?) areas?

My budget is going to be around $1600-1800.

Here's what I have so far:

Looks good imo. If the GPU comes in a 580 ti version get that. But, I have no clue if they come in that version I'm to poor to even look. They run a little better, just my two cents on the GPU. And the SSD the Vertex 3 is a little better if I remember correctly. If I'm wrong someone feel free to point it out.

Ah thanks, I'll take a look now.

Also, is there a better suited CPU Fan/Heatsink? I didn't really look that hard at heatsinks and took the first highly rated 1155 compatible one on newegg.

D Brisc : Vertex 3 does not exist in 60GB version. Only 120/240/480GB. But yes, it is better.

    Heatsink:
Option 1 : Noctua NH-D14 - Considered the best CPU air cooler.
Option 2 : Cooler master hyper 212 - A very good budget air cooler.

Option 3 : Wait for the Corsair H100 closed CPU watercooler with a 240x120 MM radiator. It will fit perfect on the top of your Cooler master HAF 932. It comes with 2x120MM fans.

To do this you will need to move the 230MM fan already installed. But fear not, there is room for a 230MM fan on the side panel of your Case. So you will not have to get rid of it.

The H100 will be fairly expensive tho. Dont be suprised if its 50% more expensive than the Noctua NH-D14 and the H70.

After reading up on the Noctua cooler, I'll be going with that.

I think I'll stick with my 60GB Vertex2 SSD, as I'm only really using it for the OS/WoW for now.

60GB is a very small drive for WoW + OS and leaves almost 0 headroom for patches/etc

Stay away from Arctic Silver, pleeaaaase. It's a sub-par TIM. Go with Arctic Cooling MX-2 or OCZ Freeze (this is actually sold at Amazon and not Newegg... I need to pick up another pack of it, it's such a good TIM)

Id Switch Up The Case to the Coolermaster HaF-X. "Normal/nvidia edition"

Id Switch to a coolermaster Hyper 212plus or a V8. cooler.

The hard drive is limited in size what about other games?, why not take advantage of smart technology on that mobo?
Get a 120 gig intel solid state drive, and a 1tb western digital drive with that mobo you can combine them and the solid state will act as cache memory.

That or you can get a momentusXT its a hybrid drive 500gigs.

Well 60GB really = about 56 gig after formatting.
Wow is 25 GB, Windows 7 is about 16 gigs.
That leaves with the the BARE MINIMUM 15 gigs WoW needs to patch.
I really suggest getting at least 80GB

Why stick with MX-2, when MX-4 is here already.

Oops, 15gb yeah. That's what I'd initially written too. However, you're padding on WoW; it's only 23.6gb here.
The remaining 15gb should handle patches fine for a long time ahead.

    Sure, a new SSD would still be lovely, but I think it's a bit of crying "Wolf, wolf!" three days ahead. >>;

Honestly, MX-4 isn't better than MX-2, it's pretty much the same. MX-2 is usually less expensive, so go for that IMO. But really, if you can find OCZ Freeze, that trumps all. OCZ Freeze dropped my temps by a solid 6C over AS5 and 3C over MX-2.

I don't know why Corsair's expecting for H100 to be a hit since the NEED for watercooling has greatly died off with SB chips. I suppose they're aiming at those who are running older-generation CPU's where heat was truly the limit on overclocking...or SB owners who despise seeing their temps cross 50/60c...but other than that, H100 sales will be meh.
H50/H70 sold tons back when people genuinely needed them to OC their first-gen i5/i7's.

Hmm, I'd say drop to a GTX 570, as the 580 doesn't have a huge performance boost. Use the cash you save on the difference to up yourself to an OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III 120GB SSD!

    You will not be disappointed.

Still have my i5 760 with an H50 Did the job, and will keep doing it. I overclocked a whole 1.3 GHz more on AIR on my 2500k than my 760.

    760 = 3.2 GHz
2500k = 4.5 GHz, and it was easy.

Pretty sure I could push it to 4.8-5GHz on AIR if I tried real hard. This is using a Silver Arrow cooler.

    Hey I don't flame :S

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...0-ti-review/18

580 is nVidia's flagship card and they weren't going to make it so easy just to flip over to a 570 for "similar" performance, the jump from 570 to 580 is quite noticeable. A 560 can be OC'd to reach a 570, a 570 can't be OC'd so easily to reach a 580. Since OP is getting a DCII model it would be silly not to OC...a 580 races even further ahead due to better OC headroom. I read somewhere that apparently 580's arrive slightly downclocked at only 782mhz stock, pushing it to 850mhz is a joke.

Yeah I was perusing ways to save money (as I'm probably ~$50-70 over budget atm, which is fine, but I don't want it any more than this)... but I can't bring myself to drop any of the parts I have, lol. Definitely keeping the 580/i5 and would like an SSD, but not sure which SSD would best fit my needs. I upped my budget a bit and have the Vertex3 120GB in my shopping cart now. Right now... my PC is looking to be around $1900 with taxes+shipping. Are there any changes you would make to drop my price that would be viable?

(img doesn't include OS/thermal paste, which is still included in the total above)
